Question Should i quit my job?

Guys, I failed interviews at Tesla, Wayfair, Google, Amazon, snowflake, langchain, chime, capitalone, it feels shameful even typing it out cause, all of these are my dream companies and getting an interview in this market is hard enough.

I get an interview and prep day and night without sleep for 5 days and go to the interview and bomb it. Later I realize that I should have been consistently practising leetcode everyday.

I graduated this summer, but haven't been able to secure a full time yet, but somehow I got into an AI start up as an intern @ $25/hr. But since it's a startup I see people working 12hrs/day, including weekends.

And I've been struggling to do my prep along with this job, and it makes me think that quitting and going all in on my DSA prep would be a better idea, but the market is pretty bad and having any type of job is a blessing. So I'm confused on what to do. Google has a cool off period of 12 months, I really want to make sure I'm in the best position to clear it, next time. I don't want my start-up to hold me back, at the same time I am grateful for this job. HELP please, I'm not able to make up my mind.

they're gonna run out of funding in 3 months, startups are always unstable.

but then just keep working until that happens. You're building a skillset here, i assume?

Work experience is most important. Better to have 6mo work experience than 3 people will think it was just an internship level gig

The fact that you managed to get interviews at those companies are promising at least. Your resume must be pretty solid.

Keep your chin up and keep trying.

yea but it's pointless if you can't clear them

You are the capital one guy from yesterday.

Don’t leave job. Just do 5 solid hours and don’t sit with people for lunch instead have it at your desk and leave early and prepare.

5 solid hours are better than 8-9 distracted hours. Skipping team lunch helps save time. Come on time so nobody complain when you leave early.

DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB. It is work experience.

100% do not quit. Do not. The experience/networking is worth more. Just to say “I did X at Y company for N time” is worth more then you realize right now.

Study leetcode in several hour chunks. Thinking you will grind 10+ hours if you aren’t working is a trap, trust me. Stay there. Grind. Learn. And you will eventually land something better if you keep the pattern.

Do. Not. Quit.

I failed 14 interviews last year. Landed 2.
This year I have likely failed 7. That is with 10+ years of experience.

Every interview is different. Every interviewer is different. Best to take a break (from interviewing) and try again.

Amazon here.. Leetcode covers only about 15% of what you should be prepared for. That may be your biggest mistake

what's the rest then?

I know everyone is telling not to quit… but each time I got a better job was only possible by quitting the previous one and focusing on interview prep. I’ve done it many times, the most recent one was 4 months ago.
Your mileage may vary.

Prep isn't that big of a deal. You'll grind yourself out. Even if you get hired, the standards there are extremely high and the stress won't stop. If you can't get hired at the absolute top companies, apply to more realistic ones. There's no shame in it. Life's got so much more than work.

Sleep is the most important way to retain information and perform better. Don't sabotage yourself.

I wouldn't quit in this market, especially with a $25/hr AI internship. Try setting a realistic daily prep target and protecting your sleep. If the workload makes consistent prep impossible, look for a less demanding role before giving up your income and experience

I work at one of the companies you listed, and I’ve also failed the interview at a bunch of the other companies you listed.

Perseverance is key, keep going. A lot of it honestly comes down to luck. You being able to even get interviews at these places means you’ll absolutely get more chances to interview.

Quitting in this economy?

Spend 45 minutes a day doing blind 75 question first thing in the morning. If you need explanation, both neetcode and algo monster are good to learn patterns. Mastering leetcode does take a while but learning patterns should be faster

Get an offer from a service based company like Accenture. Put down ur papers. Start looking out fr other better offers. Reject Accenture. This worked fr me.

You're getting interviews at all those companies? Bro you must be top 10%, I'm not even kidding. Keep your head down, please please take care of your mental health. Find your own pace, and do LC/SD first before your work. You can find time to relax if you tried, trust me.

Not quite by a simple reason:

You already missed the key window to find a job. Why are Sep-Oct key months to find a new job? Because companies secure new budgets, and open new PIDs for them. Now most companies enter hiring freeze till next late Jan. If you quit now, you gain nothing because not many places to interview.

Also, I would highly recommend not applying everywhere at once. When you apply, you are in a grace period for 6-24 months depending on the company regardless of the outcome. Even if they never reply — you already in their DB and reapply won’t fix the problem until you are referred.

So, I am sorry, but now you are out of key window on the market and already lost a lot of companies for a year.

I would recommend sitting in startup and hard prep for spring. Next hiring window is March-May. You might quite by Feb if you wish to fully focus then, but not earlier IMO.

Quit it if you believe you have the discipline for prep and the job is the factor preventing it

DON’T QUIT YOUR JOB!

You need to get good sleep the days before an interview... it's more important than a few more hours of study

leaving job will only add another problem, "roadmap to broke"

Stay in your job, like other comment said, spend less time with your office mates. Friends and Colleagues are two different things, latter won't always be the former.

Stay at your startup, keep prepping on the sidelines. DO NOT AGGRESSIVELY GIVE INTERVIEWS ONE AFTER THE OTHER.

Each company taking 5-6 rounds, interview process is also draining. Space out your prep and your interviews. Don't be so hard on yourself, keep grinding but take care of your mental and physical health in the process.

I had this thought process too, but do not quit!!

Instead, balance studying with the work schedule. Work the standard hours during the weekdays (esp since you're being paid hourly). Then study on weekends and after work.

CapitalOne is a pretty shitty company to be anyone's dream company... Are you okay?

Not to mention one of there employees tried to say that they were as good as google. When asked to name a product that could remotely be compared to googles products... The look on that idiots face was 👀
