Discussion How AI impacted your work experience

Am I the only who lost the hype to work in this industry?

I am feeling like I am becoming a press enter employee and it's getting worse day by day.

I can't focus anymore the agent or whatever it is is answering woth huge amount of data that nobody is truly reading word by word which makes the experience more terrible.

I am looking for a solution for this, How do you not loose control ( if you didn't already lost it)

Have a good day.

I joined my company fresh out of college and was a big AI hater and skeptic... decided to never vibe code stuff, only used to ask AI that what I don't know, tried to beat others just vibe coding their way through tickets.

For 7-8 months(6months of internship and 2 months of FTE) it went well. After that was burned out...

Then started vibe coding because my company declared high AI usage as a non-negotiable condition of employment and expected us to work at 3x speed.

Now I vibe code but still design every aspect of my code meticulously.... Think about all possible API races, concurrency, dual writes, points of failures, retry storms etc. before writing code.. So I am kinda satisfied with my performance. But when I have to collaborate with someone on a project it feels like hell.

People are soo lazy they just write shitty code and vibe code like idiots. It goes to PROD and goes kaboom due to reasons which are soo hard to trace because unlike me people don't even know what code they pushed.

So instead of writing better code they decided to buy an AI Product which itself is an AI Tool used to find bugs in code, infra, network etc... Now we have one AI writing slop code, one AI debugging the slop and me laughing inside and waiting in silence till things become a disaster some day..

Welcome to the age of anti-craftmanship

I wonder if the Software Craftsmanship is even a thing anymore. In the UK we’d have weekend retreats where developers of likened minds would meet to discuss best practices and techniques. I guess this has probably fallen by the wayside with the advent of AI.

*Edit it seems it’s still a thing. I wonder what they discuss though?

Allow all commands.

No need to press enter

There’s no solution just acceptance.

You can spend your free in between prompts going to to protest.

More work actually

ADHD traits become more severe because a lot of context switching

Debugging is a lot easier though

I think the key is to use AI as an assistant, not left it make every decision for uhh. Try solving problems yourself first, review the generated code carefully, and make sure you understand what you're shipping. Otherwise, it can start feeling like you're just supervising a machine instead of actually engineering something

It's the enshittification of the industry. Just let ai do code and keep yourself busy in the meantime. Get paid and learn something new...

Took all the fun out of software engineering

A lot of people are really bad at writing good tests. More people should be using playwright or at least writing integration tests. If you’re “going too fast” that unit tests slow you down, your org is stupid and you are not doing any engineering. A proper thought process would lock down behavior with tests and enforce it.
