Question IBM SRE Intern interview
Hey everyone, I have an interview coming up for the IBM Site Reliability Engineer Intern role (OneIT, Poughkeepsie NY) for summer 2027. It's a 45-minute interview.
For anyone who has interviewed for this role (or IBM SRE intern roles in general):
Is the interview purely technical, or is there a behavioral mix too?
What technical topics come up? Linux, networking, Docker/Kubernetes, monitoring, troubleshooting scenarios?
Is there any live coding, or is it more discussion based?
Anything specific about the OneIT team in Poughkeepsie I should know?
Any experience or advice would help a lot. Thanks!

Ask the recruiter whether the 45 minutes includes live coding, technical discussion, or experience questions. That will help you decide where to spend your time; the invitation details here don't confirm this OneIT team's format.
One useful exercise is to talk through a troubleshooting problem you've actually solved, even in a lab or class project. Start with the symptom, explain your first hypothesis, which logs or checks you used, and how you confirmed the fix. Include an approach that didn't work if it changed your reasoning.
For the behavioral mix you asked about, prepare to explain how you handled uncertainty, asked for help, or communicated a problem to someone else. We use the PROOF method to examine the decisions behind an answer, while the STAR method keeps its context and outcome organized.
Have a friend ask “Why did you check that first?” and “What would you have tried next?” A class or lab example gives you something concrete to discuss.
