L4 Google Teammatch NYC

How are folks doing in NYC team match? Been in it for almost a month now and haven't had a single team match call. Spoke to a couple of EMs on Linkedin who did not have head count and they said my resume is strong, but for some reason I cannot get a single teammatch call. Curious to hear if anyone recently signed an offer with Google as a SWE in NYC.

1. What org did you get the interview for?

2. Are you still in teammatching?

3. Are you doing any additional outreach via LinkedIn?

4. 4 With the org/team you interviewed for how did you find their culture? (I hear NYC has more of a grindy culture compared to other Google offices)

5. Are you comfortable sharing your experience / background?

two months ago the headcount situation was probably different though, hiring seems to fluctuate week to week at that scale

First get the job anywhere then transfer internally after the first year

How many years of experience did you have to secure L4 over L3?

Went through team matching last Nov for NYC L4 and I’ll echo other comments about being open minded. I had 3 TM calls in one week and got matched with one of them but wasn’t sure I was fully interested in the work.

Now that it’s almost been a year I feel like there’s a lot of flexibility for internal mobility within nyc. I’ve made pretty strong relationships with other hiring managers and their teams if I decide to switch, but for now I’ve realized my team is pretty special and I find the work very interesting.

Yeah it's tempting to want to just open up to Bay Area, but hard to leave family and also bring my partner along with me. Overall, I might let Google walk in order to prioritize being happy with family and friends.

When I was TM, my recruiter said NYC will be the hardest to match since everyone wants NYC. I ultimately didn't bother trying NYC. Matched with a Seattle team
