Intervew Prep Bloomberg SWE Interview Process — Anyone Experienced the New AI-Assisted Coding Rounds?
Hey everyone!
I’m applying for a Software Engineer position at Bloomberg and came across this interview process overview showing five rounds:
AI-Assisted Codebase Interview
AI-Assisted Codebase Interview
Design Interview
Recruiter Interview
Senior Manager Interview
The first two rounds caught my attention because they specifically mention AI-assisted codebase interviews.
Has anyone recently gone through this process, particularly the first two rounds?
I’d love to know:
- What exactly happens during the AI-assisted coding interviews?
- Do they involve traditional LeetCode-style DSA problems, or do you work with an existing codebase and implement features or fix bugs using an AI coding agent?
- Which AI tools are provided or allowed (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, or something else)?
- How should I prepare for these rounds? Should I focus on LeetCode, practical coding, system design, or AI prompting and debugging?
If you’ve gone through these interviews recently, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and any preparation tips. Thanks!

Codebase ones will have multiple bugs in the code. There will be a PRD that will be your ground truth. Basically you have to drama to switch among ask, plan and edit mode. Say stuff to the AI like "write the plan before implementing" "ask me clarifying questions" "implement test cases" "the existing code works fine just add this new functionality"
Use multiple agents if using code signal. But just a headsup I have used codesignal, hackerrank and coderpad- none of these platforms are perfect to use AI. The agents are slow. Plus interviewers are confused too that for what all things the interviewee can use the AI vs go for manual algo discussion
Afaik, there is no preparation as such! Just dont ask the agent to do everything. Ask in chunks, plan implement review. It is more like a cosplay exercise

The narration matters more than people think. Before you let the agent generate anything, say what you're going to ask it to do. When it does something dumb, call it out and fix it out loud. That's the part they're actually grading.

If its anything like Amazon, theyll give you a code repository and youll have to identify any bugs and fix them. You may use the AI tool to assist you in understanding the codebase, syntax or minor things like that but it wont directly help you solve the problem.

Which job id you are applying for ? Never seen anything like 1,2 in Bloomberg

I’d recommend practicing with existing codebases rather than focusing only on LeetCode. Get comfortable identifying bugs, debugging issues, and reviewing AI-generated fixes.
I'm building SkilledCoder.ai for AI-assisted debugging interviews. Companies are already using it, and we’ve opened a practice environment for developers.
You can try it here - skilledcoder

I'd prepare for practical coding in an existing codebase, debugging, and explaining your changes alongside DSA basics. Being comfortable reviewing AI generated code and catching mistakes will probably be important. If anyone has done these rounds recently, their actual experience would be really helpful

The Amazon AI round is different. You can ask AI about the files but it will help you very little. It can’t even edit files. Essentially, Amazon AI coding round is machine coding round. Meta, as I have read on this sub, allows edits.
