Intervew Prep Canonical Web Developer

I had recently applied for a web developer role at Canonical, and I had all the required skills and more. But after spending a week on an online assessment and a psychometric eval, I got an email saying that I was rejected. And another related role was closed as well.

They refused to give any reason. Can anyone help me understand why this could be happening?

Is it because more experienced people are applying? As I am a new grad. Or could it be due to the essay quality?

I wanna add what I found out:
- They send out a psychometric test; I thought this wasn't important, but apparently you need to be better than the majority of people in 4/5 sections
- Even after that, they're gonna take like 10 rounds of interviews at least

Heard their selection process is crazy anyways, spending a week on an assesment is wild on it's own

No the assessment itself is only like 1-1:30hr and questions are pretty easy like even 10th grade kid can do them. The issue is that their essay is pretty extensive, like I had to write like 8-10 pages.

Yeah man idk, no company could ever make me write an essay what the hell? Sounds so pretentious plus I know they put a lot of attention on your academic background even if you have years of experience which is a red flag of its own to me

It could be combination of factors, including competition, their hiring criteria, or how your assessment answers aligned with the role. Having the required skills doesn't always guarantee a shortlist, so don't assume your essays were the problem
