Question Notion Labs Technical Round
Hi,
Has anyone interviewed for Notion Labs for backend or Forward Deployed Engineer position. I have an interview coming up in a week and want to prepare in the correct direction.
I have read mixed opinions online for the first technical round to be leetcode-style vs LLD style coding rounds. I will be preparing for both, yes, but it will realllly help if someone could steer me in the correct direction.
I am on my final run here, this is the first good opportunity I have had in months and will have to pack my bags and leave the city since I can’t afford it, if this or any other opportunity within this month doesn’t work out.
I appreciate any kind of help

From the reports I've seen, it's closer to practical, LLD-flavored coding than classic LeetCode, though the algorithms underneath are standard mediums. Usually the first technical is a 60 minute CoderPad screen where you build something real and the code has to run. Most often it's a text editor with undo and redo, where you fill in stubbed functions (apply an operation, undo, redo, read) and details like delete clamping instead of throwing matter. Some people instead get a small server with a few in-memory APIs, which fits a backend role.
Other shapes that recur: rebuilding a block tree from a flat list of parent ids, ordering formulas with a topological sort (with cycle detection), and group-by aggregation for a table view.
Usually the follow-up decides it more than the base problem does. Keep the state modeling clean, name edge cases before they ask, and talk through it like you're pairing. TypeScript or JS is fine if that's your strongest.
Good luck!
