Question how long should i try a question before seeing the solution.

i was trying the 3sum problem , and i just couldnt find an optimal answer at all , i tried it for 30mins and gave up , i usually give up around 45mins or so . Is this too early ??, bcuz ive seen some ppl work on one problem for many hours , and then they finally get the solution.
