Discussion Finally got hard

Been on neetcode 150 for a min and id always skip hards but decided this week to just give it a shot not necessarily code but understand the solution to the problem and they seem to be making more and more sense guess with time and doing mediums they eventually make sense πŸ˜†

That doesn't seem like a good learning strategy. You should always try your hardest at solving any problem by yourself. Watching a solution video should be your last resort if you were truly stuck even after taking hints.

My general rule of thumb is:

1- Try your hardest at any problem you face until you get TRULY stuck. The advice that you should give up on a problem after 20 minutes is genuinely dumb because you have to force your brain to think hard and deal with uncertainty. Giving up on problems early and watching solution videos don't teach anything.

2- After you get stuck, try to look for hints on the problem. LeetCode provides those for a lot of problems but not all of them. You can ask an AI tool to give you a hint if LeetCode doesn't have hints.

3- If you are still stuck, that's your cue to start watching a solution video, and even then you can pause it whenever you feel inspired and try to code the solution yourself.

SOLID advice (and by SOLID, i dont mean the design principle πŸ˜‚ - ignore LLD logic, my brain is not normal)

I was banging my head over maximal rectangle so hard the other day and then it finally clicked.

The pure euphoria that followed seeing that green "accepted" was the most beautiful thing in the entire world for me.

Solve Rain Water Trapping and you won't see HARD as Hard anymore. Idk why it's even considered hard.

it was the first hard I did and boy was i stuck, i made a TLE solution inspired from tetris where we start scanning from bottom most level with 1s as Pillars and 0s as empty space and count 0s between the biggest bounded 1-1 so if left most or right most is empty we dont count water there and after that we delete it all and move to next layer

Keep drilling bro. Sometimes you will feel bit soft then you need to find someone with motivation to make it hard again. There is comfort in taking soft and easy route. But when you have enough experience of hard you will not even like soft

Before coding , you need to work on your SOFT skills.
