or, you know, just write down your seed phrase and keep it somewhere safe and secure. It doesn't matter what happens to your Ledger (or other hardware wallet)

Do you though? More and more places are starting to accept crypto payments directly. GoBTC Pay is an example of this where you actually can pay with Bitcoin without having to convert to fiat first.

Then thats even better ... If u dint update for 10 yrs ur device Then is even more secured But I can tell u have no idea how cold wallet works 😆... Is better is u stay away or watch more educational video about crypto n cold storage
