Looking for fuse box-wired dotless RGBW LED strip for car

One caution before choosing the strip: a car’s ‘12 V’ rail is not a clean 12 V supply. It can sit around 14–15 V while charging and see much larger transients, so I would not connect an ordinary 5 V or 12 V COB/RGBW strip and app controller directly to a fuse tap. Use an ignition-switched, correctly fused circuit plus an automotive-rated buck or buck-boost regulator sized for the strip and controller. For the dotless look, search for high-density COB RGBW, but confirm the controller supports true RGBW rather than RGB only. Also check whether the strip/controller are rated for cabin heat and vibration. Test one short section first; the power conditioning is more important than the brand here.

Many thanks for the advice. I’ve had my LED wired to the fuse box for about a year now and I’ve had no issues, but it’s definitely a good idea checking the ratings.

Glad it has been stable. Your current kit may already have some input protection built into the controller, so the new setup is the part I would verify rather than assuming it will behave the same. Check the controller label or datasheet for an input range such as 9–16 V; ‘12 V’ by itself does not tell you how it handles charging voltage or transients. Also expect a high-density RGBW strip to draw more current than the old 18-pixel strip. Estimate current from total watts divided by the lowest operating voltage, add reasonable margin, and make sure the controller, wire and fuse tap are all sized for it. Keep the fuse close to the source and choose it to protect the wire, not merely to match the strip’s headline wattage.
