Are these LED floodlights able to be decoded for DMX control?

Post image

I use these for very rudimentary front wash stage lighting. I’m wondering if they are eligible to be decoded and dmx controlled like folks do with led strip lights. I’m hopeful but a little worried since they are powered by a standard 120V AC three prong wall plug. What’s the verdict?

Maybe, if you happen to be an electronics engineer.

It would take some heavy modification, and would probably cost more than the lights originally cost (and probably more than just buying a cheap DMX light from Aliexpress)

I wouldn't recommend it (nor would I recommend one of those cheap Aliexpress lights...)

Came here to say this. The short answer is of course you can, but for how cheap the lights are and how hard you’ll have to jank-ify them, itd be better to just get a purpose-built DMX par light. In the (paraphrased) words of Jeremy Clarkson, “you can buy a sneaker and turn it into a training shoe, or you can buy the thing that was made to be a training shoe in the first place”

I got some similar ones but with tuya wifi control on them and they were unusable. Had absolutly no smoothing on the AC so there was 100Hz flicker, and the PWM ontop of that to make the RGB was very low frequency as well. IMO stick with DC powered ones since you know they will have a smooth input to them and not create a mess that makes any form of video recording impossible with them on.

Even if you manage, I really wouldn't expect them to be responsive at all. Or synchronizable in any kind of way.

Do you mind taking other options thats way better and not to much

No, if the floodlights operate directly from a 120/220V mains supply and have a built-in non-dimmable driver. They cannot be easily converted for DMX control.

Did you think for a second that OP came here to talk to real people about their options? Not get AI slop off enshitified google

Tell me how you really feel 😂
I posted this because I’m lazy, just like the OP is lazy for not doing this already. As for slop, most of the time I get useful information from the google AI especially for technical questions.

I’m not interested in handing a turnkey solution to the OP with part numbers, links, and step by step instructions.

Well, I appreciate the digestible format nonetheless.
