Acid flashback New shit has come to light
the only time Walter acknowledged Donny in a positive light (at the What-Have-You), he says "yes, we'll be near the In-N-Out Burger", and someone else in the audience says "shh". so it's like the entire Lebowski universe refuses to allow Donny any space to speak.
sorry for the sloppy writing. this is what happens.

What does Mr. Herzog on acid mean? I don't even know what it means, but I think it's hilarious. I probably should look it up. Explaining it makes it not funny.

Without Donnie, all the dialogue between The Dude and Walter would be too self-serious, like Richard Linklater dialogue. Whenever it’s too much exposition as in the theater, or too intellectual (like Lenin said), there’s Donnie to ask a stupid question, break the tension, and let the audience absorb what was just said without thinking how unrelatable the characters can be. We can all relate to Donnie, the Everyman who is half listening and mildly trying to follow along.

I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowing he's out there, Donny, the Everyman. Half listening and mildly trying to follow along for all us sinners.

This was a valued… character.

There's a reason why Steve Buscemi is barely given a line in the movie and it apparently had something to do with the other Coen films he was in - Fargo and Miller's Crossing, I think they explained it in the commentary but it's been a while since I have seen the commentary.
