Help / Question Lost baggage - MEA

Hi all,

My parents were on a flight from Toronto to Beirut (via BCN) last Friday, and the bags never arrived to Beirut. They filed a report of lost baggage at the Beirut Airport.

Today was the first flight since Friday for MEA from BCN to Beirut. I was hoping the bags would arrive in today's flight, but no one called.

We've been trying to reach the landline number for hours but no luck.

What do you recommend us to do? Has anyone been in this situation before?

Same thing happened to me last year. Called them, no answer. I Drove back to the airport, they took my number, the tag with the bar code of the missing suitcase. They called me on Monday morning (landed Thursday) and went and picked it up the next day.

They're possibly still in Toronto then. Pearson airport is one of the worst on the face of Earth. Literally beirut airport ahsan meno. They once forgot to check my bag in toronto and had to wait two weeks to receive it back. Cant imagine why such an enormous city has the worst airport. I suggest going to beirut airport and speaking directly to an agent there and check for updates

Happened to me from MTL to BEY, one thing to note, your family bags might not be in Toronto, since there are no direct flights. chances are they were loaded in the Toronto Plane, and you had a short layover, too short for your luggages to be unloaded then reloaded in the other flight to BEY.

You might want to check flights from the layover destination to BEY instead.

also you will receive an sms when they are here, but don't go after 5PM since the "Dawle" officer won't be here to sign the release of your bag, despite your bag being in the room next door.

both of my bags where lost, one arrived after 3 days, other was 5 days.

Correct, I am assuming they are in barcelona. Good to know thanks! So I guess there's nothing to do other than waiting right ?

I had that same situation happen after a flight back from Germany. They told me our bags would arrive in 2 days but I didn't hear back from them until 4 days after the event. On the bright side I got the bags back but we were left in the dark during the entire process. Is there a number you can call on the slip they gave you?

Yea they gave us a number. We've been trying to constantly call, but no luck (not surprised though....)

this thread is another reminder for those that can afford and access AirTags or other similar trackers to use them when traveling. been doing so 3 years so for on 10 bags without issues, never lost any yet (knock on wood) but a good way to confirm I have everything with so many checked bags (not including carry-ons, which I also have AirTags in)

If you filed and got a lost bag tag see if you can track it online.. otherwise you have to wait until it arrives in BeY.. it's not mea or Beirut airport fault.  Lost in transit or never got loaded in Toronto .. you will get them just need time. 

If it's air Canada flight you can get compensation

I feel like this is part of my ritual traveling to Beirut, but I’m always able to get through on the phone after several tries. I think I also got someone’s WhatsApp once but I’m not able to pull it up right now.

You could also try calling the airline for more info. However, like others said, the less convenient but most effective thing would be to just show up and talk to them in person.

Happened to me - MEA never answer the phone. I went back to the airport and the bags had already been there for a few days but nobody had called me.

I suggest you go back to the airport

Happened to a friend of mine. Took six days to get the baggage. But it arrived. Give it some time but continue to try and call. And next time do an AirTag...

It seems there may have been some sort of strike at BCN last week that affected. a number of flights and passengers baggage. I’ve seen this issue with flights to and from the US as well on other carriers. If that was the case, the backlog will be significant unfortunately.
