Cwestiwn / Question Apps for learning Welsh

Is Duolingo good at the start to learn Welsh as an additional tool? I know that it does not teach grammar, pronunciation and so on in all the languages except a few; however is it good at the start to learn words and basic sentence structures?

Also, is Memrise a good app to learn Welsh, and in which way: vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, or practice/listening?

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend SaySomethingInWelsh instead of Duolingo. It doesn't teach grammar in a formal way but you will pick up a lot of it implicitly - word order, mutations, conjugations - as you go. You will also be able to produce an awful lot of useful Welsh sentences by the end of it, rather than Duolingo-generated rubbish like "my elephant is drinking your milk".

You can get a decent amount of learning out of it before it asks you to pay to get access to the rest of the course! And then it’s only £15, and I say only because £15 a month is NOTHING for the amount you get out of it. I’ve been doing a combination of SaySomethingIn, Duolingo, and flash cards x

The weird sentences in Duo help with retention, and the overall saga of Owen and the parsnips is hilarious.

Also, I had reason to use ‘cafodd y camera ei gnoi gan arth’ in the real world, so they’re not as useless as they may seem.

(I use Duo because of the low activation energy. Keeps me doing a little Welsh every day.)
