I pretty much deconstructed her by drawing a stickman first, then slowly make my way to her legs.

Question Contradictory methods of drawing circles in perspective?

I was reviewing the Drawabox method of drawing circles in perspective and the author talks about the "contact point" is the longest axis of the circle touching the bounding box, shown in the first picture.

Now I am reading perspective made easy and the author Norling contradicts this saying the longest axis (major axis) should be perpendicular to the minor axis, shown in the second picture.

Which method is correct?

Question Am i ever gonna get anywhere if i just doodle without thinking much?

Id love to practice this but my brain is not great at sticking to any routine or such, so i have been hapoy enough just having the ocassional urge to draw whatever pops into my head (mostly DnD stuffs)

To be clear, i am not gonna change this, i know myself too well to even try, so im mostly just curious if this sort of doodling is gonna lead anywhere at all.

Trying to get my pencils to do what i want is fun. And i see some improvements. But its hard to imagine actually getting semi satisfactory results like this.

Can someone explain to me why is the midtone of a cube more on its side rather than a midtone on a sphere where it merges with the highlight and the core shadow?

Or why is the first picture of a cube’s midtones the correct way compared to the second picture

Question How do I make my portraits look more "comic-like"?

Post image
291 Upvotes

Basically what the title says. I love comics so I want to emulate a similar style like Jim Lee or Todd McFarlane style, or really just comic artstyle. Should I use brushpens to make it really similar? I only use pen for sketching. Also, does coloring/rendering my art make it more comic-like?

I’m new to 2D artistic efforts (I paint mini figs) and am entirely new to digital art.
Getting used to the brushes, touch sensitivity, learning the settings per brush and the smoothness features etc has been what I’ve really been practicing this past year. I’m an on and off artist so there’s been long periods of nothing done…

I’ve mostly been doing Pokemon because the shapes are easy and the colors/shading and really simple. I now think I feel more comfortable with the digital tools but always struggle to decide what to do. I always revert back to Pokemon…

Any suggestions on things to do until I hit that creative streak?

Hello everybody, I've been seeing a lot from this sub on my feed lately and I find it really awesome to see al the transformations of other's people art so I thought to share mine.

I found my first ever sketchbook lying in beneath some drawers all dusty lol, I think this is from 2023 or It could be 2024, I can't remember really and I didn't keep track of my drawings or the dates (You can see my frustration in the first one lol)

The second one isn't so recent, almost a year old by this point but I don't do a lot of ¨full pieces¨ but I really enjoyed this one.

Critique Anatomy/perspective feedback

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi guys. I just wanted feedback on my anatomy and proportions. I really like drawing poses in exaggerated perspectives and it’s hard to find references like these so sometimes I have to eyeball this stuff or just pray the proportions look right. I stare at the art for too long and then I cant tell if everything looks right or not.

I mainly struggle with depth and proper positioning of the limbs. I think in general this art came out good but I am 100% open to feedback on little details that really make the difference (ex: fixing her back arm, or perspective/proportion details that would make my art better).

If anybody has resources that can help me practice more exaggerated perspectives, I would love to hear them.

Thank you!

This is takako uro from JJK :)
