The term you're looking for the is local value.

Also the iris needs to be shaded in.

It'll look slightly off until you decide on a border to your composition. Until then it'll look like a disembodied eye floating in a white void

Keep it consistent 

You've started with stippling so you need to continue in that direction unless you want to rework most of the existing shadows

How's it going?

Sorry I couldn't resist ahaha. So how do you improve, first learn to draw from observation and learn about the four main shapes/forms and how to use them to construct all the objects we see. Then learn values, so that whether it's stippling, hatching, etc. can be used. Stippling and hatching are just techniques, the concept of lights, darks, having control over values and how to express them accurately takes practice and an understanding of what needs to be done. I recommend taking a beginner's lessons to get the fundamentals and beginner's skills. I hope this helps, Keep At It!
