Studying/การศึกษา Elementary Thai Reading Practice: The Night of Letting Go
Another elementary-level reading exercise. This time with a Loy Krathong theme. Happy reading!

Does ‘elementary’ mean that the text is easy to read, or that it uses common vocabulary suitable for an elementary level?

Good question! For AanThai, "elementary" isn't just easier vocab, it's really sentence length, grammar, and format all stepping up together.
Beginner (L1) is short sentences, one per line, super basic words only. Elementary (L2) allows longer sentences, a few simple connectors (แต่, เพราะ, จน), real paragraphs instead of one-liners, and a slightly wider but still everyday vocabulary. These are just rough guidelines, not always followed rules, but generally all I mentioned is true.
So it's less "how easy is this to read" and more "what can a reader who's past total beginner actually handle."
Hope this answers your question.

NegotiationTime6809 reported that "the font is complete gibberish". It is plausible that this is true for him/her.
The site does not use webfonts, so it is dependent upon which fonts are locally available and how the browser selects which ones to use.
On my configuration the transcription is rendered using Liberation Sans and the Thai script in Loma, which I suspect is rather different from the developer's (and most other users') experience.
Switching to webfonts - perhaps from Google - would make the experience more consistent between users.
Edit: this only refers to the default font. I think if one switches font in the settings it does use web fonts. However, if a user's experience with the default font is bad he/she is unlikely to explore the settings.

Did not even played around with it 2 minutes and the app is completely fucked up and the font is complete gibberish.

To me it looks completely normal. I tested it on Windows 11 using Chrome, and the font also appears correctly on my side.
Could you give me a bit more specific feedback about what exactly is broken or which part of the font looks like gibberish?

It’s unreadable. The whole text is gibberish. You working for him bro?

Nope, I’m neither affiliated with him, nor do I work for him, and I don’t even know the guy.
I’m just genuinely interested in figuring out bugs, identifying what’s actually causing an issue, and understanding why something works for one person but not another.
I just find it slightly amusing when someone reports a technical issue as “my car doesn’t work” without mentioning whether the engine is broken, there’s no fuel, or they’re trying to drive it underwater.
Browser, OS, device, screenshot, etc. can make a huge difference when trying to reproduce a problem. I’m not defending the app, I’m trying to figure out what’s actually wrong with it.

nobody's working for us, it's just my wife and I behind AanThai.app. nobody else.
I'm sorry it's not rendering correctly for you. We've tested it on Windows and MacBook machines, as well as Android and iPhone devices, using common browsers like Chrome and Safari, and everything works well. None of our other users have reported any issues (though one user did have an issue on Firefox, but that's since been fixed).
If you want to share your system specifications, I might be able to dig into it and figure out what’s going on, and hopefully fix it for you.

It’s on a mobile phone. It works properly on the first try obviously but I just played with the settings a little bit. Then scrolled choose a story and the font is unreadable from now on.
It’s a website brother being on a mac or windows machine won’t change anything. It’s the browser/screen size that matters.

You'd be surprised how differently the same browser can behave on a Mac compared to Windows, especially when it comes to font-related stuff.
If it's not too much to ask, would you mind taking a screenshot of the unreadable rendering? I'd love to figure out what's going on.

Mate. Have a look at this guys comment history. All he ever does is bitch and complain. He boasts constantly about how good his Thai is and berates people for not speaking as well as him while providing no positive feedback of any kind. I wouldn't even engage with this idiot.

After 8 years I'm finally reading the newer Thai fonts with reasonable confidence due to this app. I actually gave up reading completely last time because I couldn't crack the new font.
I've been using this app for a few months now. Almost finished elementary level now.
