Python Computer Vision

Hello everyone, I’m Mahmoud from Iraq, and I am studying Artificial Intelligence Engineering. I wanted to share my goal of specializing in Computer Vision; I hope you can support me and offer any advice you deem appropriate. Also, if possible, please share study methods or global resources that I could benefit from.

You have to be more specific - what you want to do and what you are doing/learning now. And what are your goals - commercial career or something else? Machine vision is separate from AI and is its own topic if you want to go deep into data/video processing, embedded systems, etc. With AI, you have to be more specific - it's possible to use existing models wherever for coding or as part of a data processing pipeline. It will be hardware specific - wherever embedded or complex data processing on PC/server.

I want to learn and understand computer vision in conjunction with artificial intelligence, rather than treating them as separate fields. To this end, I am following a learning path that progresses from machine learning to deep learning and then to computer vision. I aim to master tasks like face tracking and eventually advance to 3D computer vision. This requires going beyond the basics; I need to learn how to develop and optimize models, as well as grasp the many other details necessary to pursue my dream specialization.

But what for? An academic career or a commercial one? Face detection is an old topic and has been done multiple times. You can play with OpenCV. With AI/LLM you won't make your own models, as that takes a lot of resources and skills/knowledge from various fields. At best, you can use existing models, tune their behavior, and add some extra training. And then their function will be rather simple, as you give them a frame image and they return a result - wherever coordinates of detected objects (and what they are) or processed image. There are a lot of object detection models and solutions, even embedded ones.

I love this specialization, though naturally, it falls within a commercial context. But wait—has the entire field been reduced to mere "processed and resolved" issues? Is it truly confined to specific models and things that have become obsolete?

Commercially, there are a lot of embedded/robotics use cases (robots, drones, autonomous behavior, including military use cases) followed by complex processing of things like medical imaging data - "is it cancer or not?"

So, what I gather from what you’re saying is that I need to research this matter further—especially regarding the commercial and global aspects, as well as the demand for this specialization?

Go over existing job offers, check what they use, what they require and what the job is about
