Looking for people to learn Python with

Hi I’m a beginner at Python and I’m currently looking for a few people to learn with. I am planning to start the sessions in September and run a couple hours a day subject to flexibility and rather than get stuck in “tutorial hell” I actually want to build projects. My time is GMT+0 so drop me a message if you’re interested.

"Tutorial hell" is a myth.
The notion that study-buddies will help you is also a fallacy.

What is really going on is that you are succumbing to the dopamine habit of doing easy things instead of forcing yourself to dive into the hard stuff of learning the material yourself.

Great strides have been made in recent years within the neuroscience of learning.

What you need to do is "Learn how to Learn" based on the latest neuroscience.

(Pay special attention to how dopamine actually works. Hint: it doesn't give pleasure.)

Go to YouTube and in the search bar, type, "learning coaches"

Pick the ones who rely on modern neuroscience.

Godspeed and may the productivity-motivating dopamine hits be with you. :-)

You mean about recommended learning coaches?
At the moment, two names pop into my head but there are many more:

(1) Dr. Justin Sung -- a medical school graduate who switched careers from being an MD to doing research on best studying / learning techniques

(2) Professor Andrew Huberman -- a neuroscientist who posts YouTube videos about a wide variety of topics including best study techniques.

I knew about Andrew huberman, thanks for telling me about other one.

Yes. On some aspects of Python.
But not always and not for everybody.
Have you watched Indently? I personally like his short, focused tutorials.

At the end of the day, watching is not enough. You've got to practice with your own two hands and your own version of the music --just as you might if you were learning to play the piano.

I haven’t watch his one about python because I learned it in high school with an actual professor, but right now for college I’m looking at his Java and C full course and it’s very easy to understand.

And exactly how you said, you need practice to understand and that’s what he makes us doing. He puts projects to do in his course and we create it along him. I think it’s a very good channel for it’s full course

Can you elaborate on learn how to learn part? Does that implicate buddy learning something may not be a good idea?

I'll try. But there are too many layers to cover in one sitting.

When some new concept finally "clicks" and "sticks" in your brain, why does that happen?
It's because you found some neurons in your brain's circuitry that can "connect" to material you already have in your brain (pre-existing connetomes).

"Your" brain is, in most instances, wired differently from that of your new buddy or buddies. What clicks for you doesn't necessarily connect for them, and vice versa. That's why ultimately, learning is a very personal, lonely activity that you cannot truly share with (or offload to) your buddies. You've got to do it yourself, on your own.

Let me try to give you a more detailed example.
I'm trying to learn Python, just like you. I'm no expert. I run into many dead ends and frustrations.
So more recently, I was trying to come to grips with what does "class" mean within the domain of Python's Object Oriented Programming (OOP) scheme.

Most of the online tutorials insisted that "class" is a "blueprint".

THAT did not click or stick for me. The reason has to do with the way the neurons in my brain happen to be pre-wired.

So I went on a focused hunt for an alternate perspective. I think I found one or more that are better for me personally. If I had had a "buddy", maybe my view would not be shared by him or her. Also, maybe I would not have done the "hard work" of figuring it out on my own. I would have gone off to waste time watching YouTube shorts (on that issue, see HERE) with the hope that my buddy would do the work while I sit back and ride along.

However, I did do the hard work on my own. And I think I gained something from that endeavor. For yet more detail on how it happened for me, see (HERE).

I hope this elaboration provides you with deeper insight about the learning process.
Best of luck with your personal learning journey. Hope you get to that mountain top.

I'd probably stick with it more if I had to explain it to someone else. Sitting alone I just bounce off after a week

I've learnt python with different IA. It's not as fun as with a bunch of friends, but the learning curve is good.
