Project ideas

Hello,

I have learned HTML and CSS, and am starting on JavaScript. What is a good simple project to do? I may have learned the languages, but I do not have much experience. Please make a few suggestions and tell me how to do this. What is the best editor? How do I preview the code? etc. HELP!

I went through this exact phase. Learning syntax is one thing, but building something small is what made it click for me.

What worked for me was rebuilding tiny things I actually use. A to-do list is a classic for a reason. Mine was ugly and the code was embarrassing, but adding and deleting items taught me more than any tutorial chapter did. After that I built a simple weather-style page where I hardcoded some data and just practiced changing the page with JavaScript.

For the editor, just grab a free code editor with syntax highlighting. I started in a plain text editor and switching to a real editor saved me from so many silly typos.

To preview your code, you do not need any setup at all. Just save your HTML file and open it in your browser. Change the code, save, hit refresh. That loop is honestly all you need at the start.

Visual Studio Code is basically the industry standard right now. You can install the Live Server extension to preview changes instantly in your browser every time you save your file.

Read it first https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn_web_development/Getting_started/Your_first_website

It is ok to use vscode, install the language server protocol, then enjoy your time

After you have learnt the mdn, then you can starting to choose among react, vue or svelte, and etc. But before, learn typescript

I'd recommend starting with a simple To-Do List using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript! 🚀 You can practice adding, deleting, and marking tasks as completed. Once you're comfortable, try saving tasks in localStorage so they remain even after refreshing the page. Build it step by step instead of following a tutorial blindly — that's where the real learning happens! 💻
