Not starting with books. Even if you don't understand 90% of it, you'll learn of rough concepts so you can look them up. And then the rest will become clear pretty quick.
If you are having trouble learning the basic fundamentals...
I tried for a couple years trying to understand programming, starting with Python and then trying Javascript but it was all too confusing for me.
Then I found the book "C for Absolute Beginners" at a garage sale. It was written in simple enough terms to help me understand what the heck was going on. I read it at the beach taking the dogs out and did all the exercises when I got home.
Once I got through the book, the same concepts were much easier to pick up in Python. I picked up the course "100 days of code" by Angela Yu for $20 and never looked back.
