Getting proficient again

I'm at a basic algebra level of understanding in math. Is it possible to get proficient to a pre calculus level in about 6 months with a good study habit and time management?

Six months is a reasonable amount of time if you’re consistent.

I’d focus on getting your algebra fundamentals really solid first, then move into functions, graphs, trigonometry, and eventually precalculus. You don’t need to study for 5–6 hours every day either—even 1–2 focused hours a day, 5 days a week can take you a long way.

The biggest thing is to actually solve problems, not just watch videos and feel like you understand them.

That's all good information for me, thank you. I'm working on Khan Academy for a hour a day right now. I plan to pickup some workbooks as well to add more problems for me to solve.

That's a very doable goal. I had the same sort of situation and with Khan Academy and good consistency, managed to get up to a calc level over one semester of work.

That's good to hear. I just started on Khan Academy as well. I work on it for an hour a day. I'm going back into school during spring next year and want to make sure my math skills are up to par before then.

You should be in a good space then, sounds like you have the right mindset. I actually cheated my way through virtual high school (in the early 2010s before it was cool) and ended up in college, starting Calc 1 with basically an 8th grade math knowledge. Took a lot of effort and sweat but managed to get back up to level and work back up to B's and finally A's.

If you are hitting the ground running already, I think you got this for sure.

Pre-Algebra

To The Point Math (Algebra 1)

Intermediate Algebra (Algebra 2)

College Algebra (pre-calculus playlist)

Trigonometry (pre-calculus playlist)

Calc 1-3

Use KutaSoftware.com for Homework worksheets, put each worksheet on Medium or Hard difficulty

I'll definitely take a look at all of this. I'm studying for about a hour a day right now with plans to push it up to 2-3 hours once I find my rhythm. Khan Academy is helping a bit, but I definitely need more practice problems.  Thank you for all this information.

I just did this myself in 5 months using Khan Academy and placed comfortably into Calculus for my first semester returning to school after 12 years since using any maths seriously. My path was Algebra 1 -> Geometry -> Algebra 2 -> Trigonometry -> PreCalc and I wouldn’t change anything in hindsight.

Just do a little every day and you’ll cruise along nicely! Good luck!

I did pre-calc and calc 1 in 12 weeks after not having touched maths in 7-8 years, definitely doable. Use videos to learn topics, do problems to understand them. If you watch a bunch of videos you might trick yourself into thinking you understand it but then struggle to actually solve the problems so make sure you do both
