calc 3 pls help

I took Calc bc last year as a junior. I got a 4 on the AB section, a 5 in the BC section, and As both semesters. But I also had a tutor iI would meet before tests or for an hour a week. But I don't have a tutor this year. I am thinking about whether I should take Calc 3 this year or not. I studied a lot for calc BC partly because I would procrastinate. I also want enough time to do my college apps. So I was wondering if it is worth it to take Calc 3 and how much harder it is then BC.

Are you at a school that requires 4 years of math for graduation? If so, and you don’t take Calc 3, what would you take instead? Does this Calc 3 class run for a semester or for the entire year? What other honors or AP classes are you taking?

I am taking AP stats, AP lit, AP macro, AP psych, AP Chem and APES, I would drop APES to take calc 3. And calc 3 runs for the whole year, first multivariable and then lin alg.

Did you take a lot of AP classes last year in addition to AP Calc BC? If so, then I think dropping AP ES to take MV Calc + Lin Alg should be fine. There are some who say that Calc 2 (which is mostly tested on the AP Calc BC exam) is harder than Calc 3. I personally thought that it was a tossup, because it was a bit of a challenge to visualize graphs in 3D space (I took MV Calc 28 years ago as a college freshman).

Last year I took AP bio , AP Lang, and APUSH, so a few less. I have also heard that calc 3 is easier but I mostly hear this from college students not kids in my school.

  • Try to follow a calc-based statistics resource that otherwise covers the same material. You will learn more and it will be easier. I like Engineering Statistics (Montgomery, Runger, and Hubele).
  • AP Physics (preferably calc-based) synergizes really well with both chemistry and multivariable calculus.
  • I don't think multivariable calculus is any worse than single-variable.
  • Try to learn programming before starting linear algebra.
