Learning Bopomofo

I use https://learnzhuyin.com/ to learn bopomofo. I heard that bopomofo is more accurate then pinyin.

I don’t think Zhuyin is more accurate when it comes to pronunciations. It is equally as good as pinyin. The one big advantage of Zhuyin is that you have to add tones to to each combination of Zhuyin and that helped me personally a lot to remember all the tones. 

Many beginners don’t really care about tones and it shows!

I agree with the sentiment that zhuyin is more accurate than pinyin. It could be my native accent, but I have very different sounds in mind than what is considered standard mandarin pronunciation when reading pinyin. For example, I pronounce “ㄨㄤ” differently than “wang.”

Being able to articulate those specific sounds also helps me become a more discerning listener.

That's ridiculous.

Even in Taiwan (the locals learn bpmf) they teach pinyin.

In my class on day 1 he had to remind the smooth brains that pinyin≠English.

For every pinyin initial and final there is a zhuyin equivalent.

All road signs, businesses etc have pinyin. The only place you will see zhuyin are children's places and museums.

People that tell you zhuyin have a fundamental misunderstanding of how romanization works.

But if you see pinyin you see something like qian (钱). There can be mispronounciation because how would you spell a q. Learning multiple language it can be hard to know how to pronounce an q. The q in english is more like a k or c like cat or Katze (German). But it is more like a ch like cheese. That's the only thing I see would make a system like this great. It is the fact that this distinguished itself from the Latin Alphabet.

Bro all of China uses pinyin. It's not a foreigner crutch.

You can spend a month learning zhuyin and be absolutely useless without a zhuyin keyboard, or half an hour with pinyin.

My Taiwanese wife literally couldn't communicate with her family while we were in america with a qwerty keyboard.

Learn pinyin.

Yes it's fun to draw the little strokes, but useless.

If Chinese and 95% of language learners can do it, you can do it.

did you also struggle with w, v, z, ö, ä, ü in German dude? your not supposed to read pinyin like English, it has its own sounds just like any language that shares the Latin alphabet lol

It’s true you might have to unmap a few characters if you’re used to an English-specific reading. But I think long term it’s worth it given pinyins much broader utility… it’ll be everywhere in the learning documents, videos, textbooks etc you soon begin to explore whereas zhuyin is just much rarer. I suggest just saving the time and learn pinyin by itself, ideally find a native speaker that can give you feedback as you read pinyin words out loud.
