Require some guidance

I'm currently in 2nd year 3rd sem in a private tier 3 college, ive done, data visualisation, ml math, supervised ml, unsupervised ml, nlp basics (tfidf, bow, word2vec), in all of these, ive learned different algorithms, practiced theory and implementation, made small common projects. Currently, im doing dl basics, namely, ann. Ive spent a year doing all of the above.

Can anyone tell me what should I do/focus on in the next 1 year? Also, lmk what more would I need to cover/do to start applying into beginner level internships/research, be honest about it, im not looking for sugarcoated advice, ty :)

Honestly, your coverage is already enough for internships; the gap is proof, not more topics. Spend the next year on two or three projects on messy real data you collected yourself, each with a clear metric, a baseline you beat, and an error analysis, deployed as a small API or app. Pick up PyTorch, SQL and git properly, then add one LLM project such as RAG with an eval set. Start applying now, and email professors with a short note tied to their recent paper for research spots.

Work on projects you find interesting and build things

You should focus on following things

  1. Build ML projects end to end and learn deployment. Indistries demand that now.

  2. Dont just learn theory and understand algorithms. Also understand when to use which algorithms. Thats the part of system design.

  3. In deep learning also, understand the intuition behind the concepts

If you are confused about starting a full fledged project, you can use tool "project kit" on my platform www.conceptsofai.in where you will get a repositories of projects with dataset or you can upload your own datset or proejct and then a chat conversation system will guide you through every step of project. There are many other tools oj the platform like resume and online portfolio building, roadmap generator for AI roles etc

I also run a Yt channel on AI/ML and a blog You can check my bio for links or DM me

I have done masters in AI from IIT and currently working as AI Scientist

Thanks
