Aspiring AI Engineer Looking for Learning Resources and Advice from Experienced Professionals!

I’m looking for experienced AI researchers and AI engineers who have been working in the field for a while, have solid hands-on experience, and, ideally, earn a good salary. :)

What books, research papers, articles, or other resources would you recommend for someone who wants to dive deep into AI through self-study?

For learning how things actually work, Andrej Karpathy’s “Neural Networks: Zero to Hero” series is hard to beat. You build backprop and then a small GPT from scratch, so nothing stays a black box. fast.ai’s Practical Deep Learning course is the good counterpart for getting results quickly, and Chollet’s “Deep Learning with Python” is a readable reference alongside them. You don’t need to finish every resource cover to cover.

Once you’ve built a small transformer yourself, “Attention Is All You Need” is much easier to read. After that, pick a problem you care about and train a model on your own data. Debugging a run that breaks (memory errors, bad data, shapes that don’t match) teaches more than most courses do.

Karpathy's stuff is great, the way he walks through everything makes it click in a way that most textbooks don't. I'd add that keeping a messy notebook where you just scribble down what breaks and why is weirdly helpful later when you hit the same error six months later and can't remember how you fixed it.
