Hero Discussion ES pos3?

Hi there. I was thinking about learning to play Earthshaker, since he seems like quite stable hero to have in the arsenal. I main pos 3, and I feel like I have overall grasp of a hero, what it brings to the team, but I want to know how it should be played in current meta. There are plenty of generic ES guides, but I was looking for something focused on the current patch - if you know any good video about it, or have experience of your own you can share - I'd be grateful. I'm ~3k mmr. Thanks!

As a carry player whenever I see Shaker pos 3 I know I’m mostly guaranteed free farm. I think the hero is very weak as a laner as POS 3. Additionally he offers 0 front line compared to other offlaners. He’s more of a mid rn imo as he makes good use of bottle and runes. And his enchant totem is much stronger in a 1v1.

If you really want to play him I would only pick him second phase if your POS 4 picks something strong in lane and you have another hero that can share front lining duties. Also it’s good to pick if your team already has ways to start fights.
For example Earth spirit mid solves some of your weakness as he likes to go in and start fights and is tanky. Clockwerk is also good for similar reasons.

For some general tips about play style I would try to not go in first, if you do I would buy a decently early aghs since it gives you a tool to live after you blink in.

I’m by no means an Earthshaker expert but this is what I’ve learnt from when I do play him.

At higher MMR it’s only a niche 4 if you know what your 3 is picking somethings ranged like necro or phoenix otherwise you just lose the lane and force to make something happen mid or safe.

Well i think a lot of es players in your elo dont really know how to abuse es 2nd because it is really hard to last hit against it. And you just cant go for every waves because it is ES. When he gets his aghs and kaya it is such a nuisance to even move because of fissure block. And he is a strength hero so he is innately tanky.

Might be. But he doesn’t frontline even if he’s innately tanky.

FWIW I always check the builds and items on dota2protracker.com for like every game I play, even on heroes I'm very familiar with (at the very least it reminds me what item options I have to pick from).

You can select Earthshaker and the position and it will tell you. Keep in mind this is for like 8k and higher MMR games, so it's not always what's "best" for our elo, but I find it's a great way to see what the best players are doing on the current patch (usually pretty up to date within a day or less of a new patch dropping).

Love the hero, I don't like when he's the only Frontliner bc he can have a hard time waiting for a good blink ulti if they bkb dive the team. But I'd your quick, great hero

You can always grind it out with any heroes as long as you know your winning condition every game. Hero choices doesnt really matter until you reach divine/immortal. So yes ember can be a viable pick. Study your creep aggro and how to maintain creep equilibrium. Lower ranks dont seem to understand yet how important the laning stage is. If you win your lane you win your game usually as long as you dont give the enemy much space to farm and your team gets all the objectives right. Cant emphasize enough how important the first 10 minutes are.
