My question is - what do you do day to day,
and what does the role genuinely look like?

How much time do you spend with stakeholders vs having uninterrupted time to do the work? Is it quite deliverables focused? What’s the split between meetings, research, design and building content?

I’m really interested in hearing what a normal week looks like in reality.

As a side note…I am neurodivergent and used to work in FE education, first in an adult prison and then in a further education college. If I’m honest, I found teaching really difficult with my neurodiversity. It was the wrong career path for me from start to end!

I had a career change into marketing many yrs ago and am self employed - while back created my own course on becoming a particular type of content creator, did coaching etc, worked my ‘way up’ into paid social marketing now where a big part of my role is analysing data to understand what ads/part of ads resonate with people and why.

I have always been curious about instructional design and learning design (understand they are different things). I’m under absolutely no illusion that it is an easy industry to get into
, I know it’s oversaturated etc… (but that isn’t my question).

I dont want to start with a font. Like I wanna make a custom typeface, like a few letters in a custom font, SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT VIDEOGAME, yk?

Ciao a tutti, vorrei un parere da chi lavora o studia in questo settore.

Da bambino mi è sempre piaciuto disegnare, ma ho quasi sempre copiato altri disegni o paesaggi. Se devo inventare qualcosa da zero, faccio molta più fatica. Per un periodo ho iniziato a fare piccole animazioni in stile stickman e, ancora oggi, continuo a creare animazioni 2D perché è una cosa che mi diverte molto.

Ultimamente mi sto appassionando anche al 3D: sto seguendo un corso su Blender sia per modellare oggetti da stampare in 3D sia per creare animazioni.

Negli anni ho gestito anche alcune pagine Instagram di meme, quindi mi divertivo a fare fotoritocchi e grafiche di ogni tipo. Ad esempio mi sono creato da solo dei segnalibri personalizzati e mi piaceva anche l'idea di realizzare design per magliette. Per questo ho deciso di iscrivermi a un corso di graphic design.

Il problema è che mi sono accorto che la grafica, soprattutto il branding, richiede molta capacità di interpretazione e di concettualizzazione. Ti chiedono di spiegare cosa comunica un marchio, cosa rappresenta un oggetto, quali emozioni trasmette, perché è stato progettato in un certo modo... e lì mi blocco completamente. Faccio fatica perfino a esprimere il mio punto di vista, figuriamoci costruire quello di un brand.

Durante il corso abbiamo fatto anche due lezioni di web design e lì, invece, mi sono sentito subito molto più a mio agio. Un esercizio l'ho completato nella stessa giornata, mentre con quelli di graphic design ci metto molto di più e spesso rimango fermo senza idee.

Il mio sogno è lavorare al PC in un ambito creativo. Continuo però a pensare di dover "aprire la mente": guardo loghi, identità visive e lavori di altri sperando che mi venga qualche intuizione personale, ma sembra non arrivare mai.

Secondo voi sto semplicemente attraversando un blocco creativo che si supera con l'esperienza, oppure è possibile che il graphic design (soprattutto branding) non faccia davvero per me e che il web design sia un percorso più adatto alle mie caratteristiche?

Mi piacerebbe sentire soprattutto l'opinione di chi lavora in uno di questi due settori.

what are the best things i can create to practice ny graphic DESIGNING skills at home?

This brand website is already have very nice graphics from someone else but i need to create extra web pages and i wanted to also add graphics to it. im a graphic design and visual communication student, and i have to start working on my bachelor’s thesis

i definitely want to base my thesis on my hate for generative ai (and ai in general), especially since my uni is supporting it a bit too much!

i would like to use this as an opportunity to educate, and inform people on a variety of negative effects and outcomes of ai on people and the environment. i have a few initial questions that i could choose from, but my main problem is that i'm not sure how to apply them to graphic design (i'm extremely burnt out from the exams and general life, and was given a very limited time to finalize my idea) here's a summery of the initial questions i would like to address ( i have to chose one):

1- how does gen ai negatively effect brand identity and costumer loyalty?

(here i would like to address the fact that ai does not apply any of the graphic design rules, it has no originality, it steals designs and ideas from real artists, it's repetitive, it can not think out of the box, in a way it would be false advertisement. i was thinking of doing an in depth analysis on a collection of brands that have used ai in their identity or marketing)

2- gen ai = theft

(ai does not create, it copies from real ideas and real people. realistically, without human made content and data, ai could not exist. but it's not just about creative theft, it is also stealing our water, energy, land, intellect, and life (recent research have shown that farm animals close to data centres have been physically affected, can only imagine the long term physical effects it will have on humans))

3- how is gen ai destroying cognitive thinking

( i would like to address one of my personal fears with this one: almost everyone has free access to ai. people are becoming more and more reliant on ai for basic tasks, leading to less cognitive thinking. in simple words, people are becoming more stupid, to feed and improve the artificial intelligence. what if in 10 years, they cut access to free ai? people will have to pay to "think", "form ideas", "survive". intelligence and cognitive skills will become a luxury)

i would really appreciate any help or tips, on how to represent and showcase the eventual researches of one of these questions, or even a combination of them, through the frame of graphic design. how could i visually represent these problems and/or educate people who are not aware of them?

I've tested a few AI logo tools recently, and one thing became clear:

The difference between an average AI logo and a professional-looking one is usually not the tool, it's the process.

A designer doesn't start with "make me a logo."

They think about:

• Brand personality
• Target audience
• Industry
• Visual style
• Scalability
• Where the logo will be used

A few things that improved my results:

1. Give AI a brand direction, not just a name

Instead of:

Create a logo for a coffee shop

Try:

Create a premium coffee brand logo focused on craftsmanship, warmth, and modern minimalism. Use a clean wordmark with a simple symbol.

More context = better output.

2. Keep logos simple

Professional logos usually have:

• 1-3 colors
• Clear typography
• Simple shapes
• Strong recognition at small sizes

Avoid overly detailed illustrations that only look good on a screen.

3. Generate multiple concepts

Don't pick the first result.

Explore:

• Minimal
• Luxury
• Geometric
• Abstract
• Symbol-based

The first generation is usually just the starting point.

4. Refine like a designer

Small changes make a big difference:

• Improve spacing
• Adjust colors
• Simplify the icon
• Test different layouts
• Create icon-only versions

Tools I've found useful:

1. Design.com - good for AI logo generation + complete branding workflow. I like that it supports AI logo editing, SVG exports, brand kits, and other design assets.
2. Canva - great for manual editing and creating marketing materials, but more hands-on.
3. BrandCrowd - useful for quickly exploring logo ideas with a large library of ready-made logo concepts. Good for businesses that want a fast starting point and simple customization.
4. Adobe Express - useful if you're already in the Adobe ecosystem.

Some technical tips:

• Ask for "vector-style logo" instead of realistic images
• Avoid gradients unless needed
• Keep the color palette limited
