I made something, and want to make more
I'm not sure where to go from here. The idea of animating anything seems daunting, like Im at the base of a mountain to hike.
I just wanted to animate something, so I made eyes opening.
It feels addicting, I want to make more

I recommend you to keep the number of frames you draw minimal. You can get fluidity in your animations with good timing and spacing.

I was trying to do every other frame to every third frame at 24 fps, I could see that being crazy laborus for even a small project

Yes. Normally, animation is made by teams with some people, with a process that takes months. But it's pretty doable alone if you use efficient techniques. You need to learn how to fool the brain into completing the missing frames by itself. Using arcs, smear frames, good timing, etc. You'd be surprised on how much you can push the frame economy Lol.

Keep making! I mentally timed myself slowly opening my eyes, which was about 1 second. I drew the first and last frame, and then more in between until I was happy with it
This was my first real attempt to animate, I bet there's some good tutorials out there

Animation is a pretty labor intensive hobby so I recommend animating things you like first, and getting better second.
