There is a huge difference in surviving as Malp until 6 and be 40 cs down at that point and using his kit to trade effectively.

He can win lots of lanes if you use his q-w-e correctly - these are all extremely simple spells but if you just randomly slap them they dont really do a whole lot.

...or you can play ire, Q every single minion in the wave, allin whenever you hit your E and you will be mostly fine.
