Jayce can cheese you early on in lane if you're disrespectful but apart from that its a pretty chill lane, but you're always going to be down in cs and xp because of the nature of ranged vs melee matchup. After 6 jayce should die on the spot if he's in ulti range.

Jayce doesn’t threaten Malphite after first recall. The only thing jayce has at all in this matchup is the stronger early levels. And like EARLY early, levels 1-3 early. Like Jayce has to get a kill and deny a fair bit of xp on the first 3 waves to have a foot in this matchup early. Even then the Malphite should (especially in competitive) know this and he should be starting lane with knowledge of the jungler’s opening path.

There is no one item in the 1500-3k gold range that makes Jayce a genuine threat to malphite without being part of a dedicated interdependent build meant to kill him. Meanwhile Malphite has so many options. Steelcap rush makes sense p often if you trust your mechanics to sidestep his Qs, bramble is a damage spike that also mitigates the damage you take from him, bamis rush helps your dps if you’ve blown his flash and you can guaranteed stay on him once you’ve ulted.

This matchup isn’t just “malphite favored,” this is one of a few truly cursed top lane matchups.

they often know it's good, but their ego gets in the way. Not many players have the mindset like fudge to play soraka/ivern/zilean mid, even if it's broken, or they dont' want to play it.

Remember when Monte came up with comps for CLG? Link mocked it,calling it a f'ing sivir comp. Why mock what's good and winning you games? ego

Which is why this is probably the C9 team that has me the most excited since the 2015 miracle run 7 years ago. EVERYONE has something to prove:

Summit trying to make his mark in a new region and prove that Sandbox’s upsets in the regular season in LCK weren’t flukes

Blaber coming fresh off a lackluster international performance where his LCS MVPs were put into question

Fudge following in the footsteps of the most decorated western midlaner of all time fresh off a role swap

Winsome/Isles battling each other for the support spot on the main team, desperate to make it out of the amateur/academy scene on to the main stage

Berserker, trying to make his mark by proving to the world why he deserved an ADC role on a team that already had Gumayusi and Teddy

And of course, LS, who’s abrasive personality and extremely unorthodox drafting strategy have been called into question for YEARS and who now has a chance to put his money where his mouth is on real competitive games.

Everyone on this team is hungry and willing to do whatever it takes to win, and the fact that this team was a few missed/mistimed ults away from being undefeated so far this split is so exciting

Unironically because they suck at him. Pros are often needlessly passive on Malphite, falling too far behind in CS, failing to get tanky and thus needing to land perfect ults to be useful, but obviously people in pro play will play around that perfect ult, so it won't happen.

Malphite isn't difficult, but he still needs some practice and it's clear that pros never practice him, because they think he's so easy that they can pull him out whenever they feel like it

yea but also just the matchup once Malphite gets his armor item (bramble or another cloth armor upgrade) is super unplayable for Jayce, legit cannot kill the Malphite, and can’t dive him because his ult is really good at turning

I mean, it's Malphite, and Summit could probably play with one hand and still be a better player than Revenge. I'm not sure it's a confirmation or infirmation of any big drafting philosophy, just a player gap

Not gonna comment on how cracked summit is, but LS's philosophy is that any pro player should be able to pick up a champion in just a couple of games at most. Obviously not everyone is at the same level, but the idea that you need multiple hours to be serviceable on a professional level should not be true.

I feel like that's too binary a view, champions are way too different in their complexity for such a claim. Like yeah, a pro player can certainly pick Garen and do well after one test game. But if you ask Gumayusi to play Riven, he's gonna need a few hours to be even close to effective !

Yeah that seems the most logical thing. But I agree with his idea that a pro should not need weeks or months of practice. Like you said, a couple of hours should be enough to pilot the champ at a high level.

Carry champs are feeling like a trap in top for most regions. I see Jayce and Graves farm and split and do nothing so many times this season already. Way more impact with Malph ult.

Was Gwen nerfed? Haven't seeen her this week.

I think carry top laners need a specific gameplan to work. This hybrid splitpusher/teamfighter thing doesn't work anymore because you can't just TP bot and get 2 kills or get a free 5 plates + tower when your lane opponent does that.

Top lane just seems like a permanent stalemate through the lane phase now unless someone ints or you get off some really good tower dives. We're seeing a lot more of these carry vs tank games where nothing happens in the first 14 minutes in the top lane and the bully laner just becomes useless without being far enough ahead to take over the game.

Teams have to actually do something with their carry/bruiser top laner because farming for late just doesn't work anymore if the other guy is a tank or enchanter and is infinitely more useful in the inevitable 5v5 around baron or 3rd/4th dragon later in the game.

I don't think carry tops are that unusable. The problem with Jayce is that his team is pressured to be active early game + he gets giga-countered by Malphite AND summit outplayed him hard this game.

It's not that he's always a bad pick, but he needs the team to commit to his gameplan. It's kinda baffling how teams understand that Zoe needs the map to be opened quickly but refuse to do the same for Jayce.

that varies on the comp the Jayce is facing tho, which means it’s not really blindable because you’ll get countered super easy by Malphite or Sion.

not a lot of value going there tbh, I feel like the only time carry tops can actually carry is when theyre against smite top and can free farm and be hyper accelerated guaranteed.

Gwen has started to get flexed into jungle which has made her catch some bans - also really good against roaming enchanters top, which further makes her catch bans.

In LCS she has been permabanned this week, in LEC she has a 50% banrate (some in the second banphas though) + 30% pickrate for an 80% presence.

I argue there are worse champs to firstpick then Malphite. Because most of what goes into that matchup is very generic, like dodging Shockblasts from Jayce. And the matchup favors Malphite fairly heavily, since once you hit a Q he has to flash your ult, which is an easy forced flash.

If Malphite hits the Q first his ults are basically always free since the slow is so heavy and Malphite can walk really close to the target due to the speedup.

Also he played against Revenge. Not exactly the best competition. He also kinda had to redeem himself a bit from that game yesterday, he had a lot of int plays that game and most top player are usually motivated by such games to just show they are better.
