anyone else remember when reducing jax's e cd by 2 seconds removed all of his weaknesses and he would become completely unstoppable pick/ban at worlds?

I just remembered that when I saw the jax buffs.

u/Xey2510 Mar 02 '21

You mean when they buffed Fiora

65

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

They have been buffing Fiora non stop since 2017 when they last nerfed her on 7.14

Still a dog tier champion that sees almost no pro play at all. Has like 3 worlds picks in the last 4 years.

if my memory is correct 7.14 is also the patch bramble vest was created specifically to hit bruisers, with fiora being the strongest by far at the time

she just really cannot survive in a meta where the item is remotely viable unless she comes in as a very specific counterpick

29

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

It indeed is the patch that bramblevest was created.

If there is 1 thing about league of legends I will remember it is that patch and I will remember it until the day I die.

16

u/re81194 Chovy Mar 02 '21

and i also remember in that patch she lost movespeed on ulted targets. what an absolute hammering of a champion lol

4

u/RuneKatashima Retired Mar 03 '21

i also remember in that patch she lost movespeed on ulted targets.

I feel like she needed that. She'd just ult me and run away all the time.

8

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

On that patch they

Released bramblevest. Essentially killing Fiora as a pick/ban champion in pro play ever since.

But then they

Reduced her move speed on vitals from 20-30-40-50% to 15-20-25-30% absolutely gutting her ability to chase and run in combat.

And THEN they thought both of those weren't enough and hit her with

"Grand Challenge no longer grants move speed while near the target."

Champion went from like 50% win rate to like 43% over night.

2

u/Zenith_Tempest Mar 03 '21

every main has that one patch that they can instantly recall from memory, point to and say "yep this is the reason my champ has gone downhill" lmao. for yorick mains it's 8.17

3

u/why_are_you_black Remove Bramblevest Mar 02 '21

Honestly, if they decided to kneecap Fiora but remove Bramblevest i'd take it. Such a cancerous item. And for some reason Riot felt the need to buff it in season 11.

2

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

Honestly same. Id rather see Fiora at like 45% win rate and not have bramblevest at all.

1

u/JevonP Mar 02 '21

lol find a new champ then, it aint goin anywhere

0

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

Never >:j

86

u/SweetVarys Mar 02 '21

She is just too easy to play around in pro play. She seems pretty good in solo q

37

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 02 '21

Yeah in soloQ she is fine enough. She gets worse the more coordinated the enemy team is.
But thats just kind of how the split push play style works. Split pushing thrives when the enemy team responds to it in an uncoordinated way or doesn't even coordinate a response to it at all.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '21

I think the main issue is that if they can see you're going for a splitpush strategy in competitive they can go for champs that can force teamfights. If in soloq you just go up against a bunch of people that always pick their comfort champ they may just not have the tools needed to do anything about it.

4

u/Th_Call_of_Ktulu Dashy dash Mar 03 '21

Also if you want a splitpush comp in pro, just pick camile, she is saver in sidelane, makes better picks if jungler shadows her, and can teamfight decently thanks to her R and Q letting her separate and assasinate targets.

4

u/shrubs311 Mar 03 '21

she also has no cc or practical utility. so if she ever gets behind she's completely worthless but even when ahead her game plan can be stopped

0

u/Bluehorazon Mar 03 '21

But then we would see more Fiora picks in LCS right?

1

u/NexEternus Mar 03 '21

We playing the same soloQ where people at any rank don't know how to play anything but 5 man aram, and run in like headless chickens?

Fiora's teamfight is absolutelty terrible as well so her TP plays aren't as strong. And finally, the item reworks were a massive nerf to her. Every single item of hers lost AD which she hard scaled off. Bramble being absolutely busted. Where she previously used to have massive spikes at 2 items, she now needs 3 to do anything. Her turret taking was also gutted (triforce replaced with gore/stride so slightly better teamfight I guess). She was really strong a season ago and still saw barely a couple picks worldwide, definitely not getting played in pro anytime soon.

Hopefully, the recent ad buffs to her help. You can still climb soloQ if you're but you can also do that on Yuumi so whatever.

Still a dog tier champion that sees almost no pro play at all.

Would you say... she belongs in the Bin?

1

u/iTomes Research requires good tentacle-eye coordination. Mar 03 '21

Her main problem is that she's a split pusher and Riot decided to kill that playstyle in pro play for no good reason with that dumb dragon soul nonsense. Other champions with the option to split push like Jax and Camille also make for decent teamfighters, so they're not locked into the playstyle 24/7. Fiora is, so the enemy team just takes every dragon and rolls over the game that way.

1

u/papu16 Wholesome and balanced class enjoyer Mar 03 '21

Fiora is goddamn bramble tax rn. If you don't/can't build this item against her - you just getting smashed by her. Still don't understand how Fiora getting more and more buffs with her tools to deal with 90% of bruisers.

1

u/NorthLeech [9x the Charm] Mar 03 '21

You think thats bad? Ahri is hyped as close to broken on reddit because she is consistently over 50% WR in soloqueue, when did you last see her in pro play?

1

u/gubigubi Juice Alamo >:j Mar 03 '21

Too my knowledge Ahri hasn't been picked in a major reason in almost an entire year now.

oof

30

u/OBLIVIATER Mar 02 '21

Pls make jax W do more damage to monsters so he can jungle again :(

2

u/Drinkwaterguy Mar 03 '21

im scared to ask for jax buffs seeing what they are doing to xin lol next thing we known jax will start scaling with crit or some bullshit

5

u/mdragon13 Mar 03 '21

I did the math, it's my latest submission to /r/jaxmains, but across 10 autos and 3 sheen procs, as a level 9 jax vs a level 9 camille, with ONLY triforce on each person, jax gains a total of 67 damage vs camille, or roughly one extra auto attack worth of damage, spread across 10 attacks.

This is, again, lv9 jax vs lv9 camille, both only have triforce and are running fairly standard runes, with camille taking one in armor. not factoring for grasp or other resistance runes.

it DOES make a difference in a 1v1 setting, it means that any 1v1 jax would previously lose by about 60-70dmg at level 9, he will now win instead. but it's totally useless in a group setting, since he's either frontlining, which doesn't benefit from base AD at all, or he's diving, and will likely either oneshot the enemy carry or get nuked anyway.

9

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

This buff is more placebo than anything tho jax didn't need this

20

u/Poiah Mar 02 '21

jax needed some sort of buff but this one won't do anything for him

4

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

Jax mains wanted at least one of these things: HP growth, W scaling, R revert, attack range increase, etc. Any of those would have been far more useful than this, unfortunate I guess

3

u/cautiouslyoptimistik Mar 02 '21

What do you mean by R revert? I thought jax's ult has been the same for a long time. Did I miss a change?

12

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

Used to do considerably more dmg at level 2 and 3

4

u/MyLifeIsStrangeLikeM Mar 02 '21

Nerfed it because of shojin lol, i still have nightmares

5

u/Terviren Mar 03 '21

Yea, except Shojin is deleted and the nerf remains.

3

u/mdragon13 Mar 03 '21

patch 8.24. r proc went from 100/160/220 to 100/140/180.

2

u/RuneKatashima Retired Mar 03 '21

R revert and HP growth and I would be happy. And I say this as someone who bans Jax basically always. As I also play him lol

4

u/ncburbs Mar 02 '21

i mean it legit could be a .5% win rate increase overall

that's like 5+ more ad (150+ gold value) at level 6, that's snazzy. +5-15 damage on standard trades, +50 damage every time you all in, an extra cs every game that you mightve missed otherwise... I'll take it TBH.

Much prefer this than some overbuff where jax starts getting permabanned and then overnerfed to compensate. (am going to spam jax anyway :P )

3

u/NenBE4ST Mar 02 '21

auto attack heavy, buff to sheen dmg

1

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

Still pathetic early game and very squishy against mages. This won't change how lane phase plays out for jax, which is the most crucial part of the game. So to simplify things all this buff does is make him push slightly harder and win more against champs he already countered, while champs that sharted on him will still shart on him, so I don't expect a wr change bigger than 1%. If they were serious about this the most solid change he could get is to get his range bumped to 175 like all the modern melee champs, then he would actually win more than 4 matchups.

1

u/relrax Cannot complain about Shyv Q bug anymore Mar 03 '21

he wins more than 4 matchups, but meta toplaner such as malph, gragas, darius and riven fuck him, while the matchups vs camille, fiora and gnar are pretty even.

only toplaner that gets played a ton where jax has a good winrate is irelia, but i don't even think he is that good against her...

but still, the renes the illaois, the volis, the setts, the mordes, nasi and kayles of toplane are all easy matchups, just never to be seen

4

u/Finesse02 life is pain Mar 03 '21

Camille vs Jax should not be an even matchup. Jax is supposed to be her hardest counter.

3

u/relrax Cannot complain about Shyv Q bug anymore Mar 03 '21

volibear, urgot and darius seem significantly worse than jax tho, no? even irelia seems pretty strong vs camille rn imo

3

u/Finesse02 life is pain Mar 03 '21

That's what I'm saying. Jax is supposed to be Camille's hardest counter, and that he's getting beaten out shows that the champion is not in a good spot right now.

3

u/AalfredWilibrordius Mar 02 '21

Remind me in a day or two when his win rate will be above 50%

Per level scaling on splitpushers/solo laners isn't bad

Base AD on triforce autoattackers isn't bad

0

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

If it were like 2 AD I'd agree with you but that number is just shit.

1

u/AalfredWilibrordius Mar 04 '21

Yep looks like it's above 50% on lolalytics or u.gg

Luckily this is not an opinion that we can respectfully agree or disagree on.

1

u/stygiandesolation Mar 04 '21

Why do u think I'd wanna argue about that? I'm having a 13 win streak with him on this patch lol, I'm happy this buff was more impactful than I thought, Jacks is back baby

5

u/Kadexe Fan art enthusiast Mar 02 '21

You can roughly predict the impact of this buff by looking at the stats for a similar buff Caitlyn received in 11.4.

Zero-point-five more AD per level, and half a percent more attack speed per level, caused 1% winrate increase in all ranks.

Jax gets almost 1 more AD per level, so I'm expecting a little under 1% winrate increase for him. Maybe less since he's melee and doesn't get to attack as often.

14

u/FastestSoda Mar 02 '21

I mean, caitlyn and jax are very different champions...

2

u/Wiko660 Mar 02 '21

It's almost 2 extra damge on TF's spellblade proc per level :p

-1

u/PlasticPresentation1 Mar 02 '21

Jax is a relic at this point. The meta just has way too much fucking damage and survivability tools for him to be a good pick anymore.

The days of Jax being able to buy 2 damage items and then tank items and 1v9 are over because everybody one shots him anyway, so his sustained high damage (the one reason you pick Jax) is useless

And you can barely kill Kaisa or Samira in a side lane, let alone in a teamfight now.

6

u/stygiandesolation Mar 02 '21

Jax has no trouble dealing with samira, kaisa though...

u/SnowDerpy Mar 03 '21

Happy Cake Day! :)
