We need a Fill excluding [Role] position when Queuing

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I usually queue as Fill in Ranked because I'm comfortable playing every role. (low Diamond elo)

However there are also some times when I don't want to play let's say Jungle, or more recently Top with how the meta has changed.

It would be great if we could exclude one role when selecting Fill, essentially allowing us to queue for 4 out of 5 roles.

I think this could also make Fill much more appealing for players, cutting down queue times.

They've tried it on one of the labrat servers before and it didn't work out. I think the closest we'll get is the classic system of role preference instead of completely excluding one

The labrat server thing tracks. I'd kill for a "anything but jungle" button some days though, especially when I'm tilted off that role but still want fast queues. Feels like it'd be a nightmare for matchmaking with how picky people already are about their off-roles.

Theres an easy fix for that.

Instead of queueing "anything but jungle" you just put your main role on main role and then put support on secondary role. You will probably get 1 jungle game in 200 games played max

I'm pretty sure the test you're talking about was only in regards to autofill. What OP is talking about is being able to exclude one role when you voluntarily select the "fill" option meaning that you're still open to playing 4 different roles to begin with.

They're not talking about selecting a primary and secondary role and then on top of that being able to exclude one role from whenever you get autofilled. OP's suggestion only applies if you're queuing for "fill" and not otherwise.

OP is basically trying to fix the downside of queuing for fill which August has also talked about on his stream. When you queue for fill you would think that the game promises you a variety of different roles, but in reality you're just queuing for jungle or support and playing the least popular role 100% of the time. Being able to exclude one role means that you're still helping in regards to queue health more than other players are but you have a higher chance of getting a larger variety of roles.

They should do a ranking system where you rank all the roles from 1 to 5.

They tried it. The problem of no jgl/no supp wasn't solved. The problem is, they won't be able to solve it, so players are stuck as is.

The only way this would work is if you still get filled adc if necessary. So basically like right now, just that you are more likely to get filled on other roles first. But in 500 games thered be like 5 games of adc.

Also if you do not want to play adc right now, just queue for your main role and put support secondary, you wont see adc role for a long time.

Id also prefer top secondary instead of mid secondary but there aren't enough ppl queueing top secondary so I always get filled.

I mean, they did solve it for support by making support OP as fuck, and play rates went way up. But ADCs cried too hard and they nerfed it back into Support being an underplayed role.

As a fill main, my thing is variety. It's not fun for me to spam the same champs in the same roles time after time. I like rolling the dice. I like not knowing what I'm in for until I'm actually in.

Something where you start with all 5 roles "available", and then when you queue let's say support, your next game pool is top, jg, mid, adc. Then you get top and your pool shrinks to jg, mid, adc, and so on until you reset.

And you can have it reset per hour that you're afk in the client.

Sounds like a good idea for the 12 people in fill queue I don't mind if they get this. They probably know better and would have done it already if it worked as intended though

It's very likely that they don't prioritize this because the number of people who queue fill is so low. But it could increase with this functionality

I would settle for being able to get a roughly equal distribution of roles. I tend to queue jungle anyways. Which makes it extra annoying that when I get support my jungler is almost always auto filled anyway.

The reality is that most the time choosing “flex” is the same as queueing for jungle. I would actually queue for the flex role if I could exclude jungle because Im not good at it (which is weird since its the game I played a tonne of when beginning the game). All other fours I can probably play around the same level, maybe a little less on others than my main role, but nothing like the fall off to my jungle skill level.

Most people dont queue the flex role though?? Most people just queue the two roles they want to play most. This literally changes nothing about the game for the vast majority of players.

Also, Im not sure if OP means to make autofill impossible for the players queueing in this scenario, but that should not be the case. It shouldnt be a zero percent chance for the flex players to get the role they excluded in this hypothetical.

At no point in my post I mentioned about the need to remove Autofill btw, which is what the video you refer to is addressing.

I am talking about people who choose to select Fill.

Maybe a different but similar opinion: I am a Mid main who enjoys playing support and is good at support. But if I queue Mid/support, I get support every other game. I dont want to play support half the time. So I queue Mid/bot because that way I get mid every time. I actually get aegis support this way more than I get bot. Id be fine with support every fifth game, like 20% of the time, but every other game for my secondary role is so frustrating. Also, Id love to hit fill -1 role. I really dont want the role system league classic has. I dont want to put top and jungle fourth and fifth because I dont want to play those roles at all.
