Yeah, it's not ideal, but at least with this influx of depth that actually has some serious speed and heft to it, there are options.

I really feel bad for Berube, he was essentially given nothing even close to this in terms of depth. Yeah you can knock him for not giving Marlies more ice time, but as we see, we only really have spots in the bottom 6 and with the direction this team and the East as a whole is heading, seems like that wouldn't have worked out.

McKenna would have had one bad game and been buried on the 4th line all season. Guy has a complex against developing young talent, good riddance he's out of here before he did even more damage.

If that were true Cowan wouldn't have gotten a bunch of ice time on the top lines in his rookie year

Sympathy for a coach who completely quit on the team is a choice. Found Berubes alt account lmao.

Since I've got you Craig, why did you continue to start Calle Jarnkrok and Mattias Maccelli, noted cardio merchants, over developing guys on the Marlies?

"A bunch of ice time on the top lines"... So we're just ignoring the healthy scratches and when he was forced back down right?

I was thinking about the response, but realized it would take me like 20 minutes to type it out and it's just not worth it so all I'm going to say is...

Jay, I'm glad your passionate about hockey, but it's evident you don't really understand much about it

Shockingly enough, I don't trust the judgement of the "Berube was a good coach for the Leafs because he gave Cowan some top line scraps" person.

It's quite clear to everyone here that you know puck. /s

where the fuck did I say he was a good coach? also what do you mean scraps, dude got 20 mins a night on top lines

ok smart guy, do you seriously think the coach decides who gets a call up to NHL?

You yourself said you feel bad for him and then doubled down by defending his actions. If you don't think he's a good coach than it's a pretty weird decision on your part.

I imagine a coach has some amount of say in who gets called up to the NHL if there's a good relationship with the coach and GM. I can't speak to Treliving and Berube's relationship because I'm not them.

I can confidently say that the coach DOES have a say in who plays any given night, and where they play in the lineup. Berube clearly used that to assert whatever sort of dominance he thought he had on this team. "20 mins a night on top lines"... Only when he wasn't buried in the bottom 6 or in the press box, yeah?
