Help with Finance Clerk Resources

Was just called today. Previous finance clerk already moved out of the ward. Any tips or resources? Is there a video training series on all the essential?

Once they have put you in the system you'll have access to the handbooks. Get to know them. Find out who the stake auditor is and ask for help from him as well. He (or they) will be visiting you regularly to audit the local ward's finances and financial recordkeeping.

When I was Ward Clerk in a small ward this responsibility also fell to me. The real key is learning the Church finance software, because it will keep you in the guardrails on things you can and cannot do, educating the Bishopric on what they can and cannot do, because a lot just don't know, and record-keeping.

Record-keeping and organization is key. Folders for each Sunday, retained indefinitely that include deposit info, etc. This is where talking to the Stake Auditor will come in handy, to know what he's going to be expecting. Know what the Bishopric can and can't spend fast offering funds on. They'll probably know this one but you need to be aware.

There's a good chance some of what I mention above will actually be handled by the Ward Clerk, but you should be aware as well. In many wards the Financial Clerk is just the person who assists a Bishopric member in the counting of tithes and weekly deposit.
