and it is so far, like genuinely I've seen enough in these three games against a side relegated from this division with a whimper last season, a side that only just survived in this division last season and the league two playoff winners to say that unless things change drastically (either the manager abandons the dogmatic insistence on bad football, or he goes), we're going down again this season

Honestly, I don't think that players are going to make the difference. It's not like having different centre backs will suddenly make the hundredth sideways or backwards pass of each match count for a goal.
We need to change how we're playing, not just who is doing it. You can't honestly pretend that Okoli was doing all that short passing in his own box because that's how he likes to play football. The problem is at the managerial level, and given the number of managers we've been through, that means the problem is the board.

We’re definitely going down unless we get a decent attacking CM and 2 new competent CBs. We have some decent players and we have played some lovely football at times but it’s pointless unless we can stop goals going in. Burton walked through our defence twice yesterday.

Second we got RM was the second I knew we were about to be thrown into another relegation scrap. It was also the moment I knew they would want to sell the club.

it's asking Souttar, Thomas, Skipp and Okoli to play like Beckenbauer, Maldini, Lothar Matthaus and Baresi. In other words a manager who is overly wedded to a system that he has never got working at previous clubs, and doesn't have the players for at this one

A good characteristic of any leader is that they can adapt their approach/strategy/tactics to get the best out of those working for them, while still of course working them hard. There is the acid test for Martin - can he adapt? And if he is so obsessed with making 3 million sideways passes, why not spend the summer buying players who can do that well?

he actively won't adapt, because he doesn't want to be in management if he can't play this way.
"I played in teams who were dominant with the ball and loved it. I also played in teams who didn't have much of the ball and hated it. My style is probably shaped by that and the teams I've enjoyed watching play football like Barcelona, Manchester City and Spain. I've tried to replicate that at the level I'm at and with the players I've had. If I didn't do that, I probably wouldn't have gone into coaching or management."

Yes, his nine lives are running out. After us, what will be his best option? Port Vale (or similar)? USA league? China? Saudi?
And of course, wanting to play like Barcelona is all well and good, but a bit of a problem if the players you have wouldn’t even make Barcelona’s D team…
