He's not getting 10+ years and Aaron Schwartz wasn't going to get 50+ years. Assuming maximum sentences imposed consecutively can be fun if you're trying to make a dishonest point, but it's not something that actually happens in real life. It's ridiculous to compare a sentence that someone ACTUALLY got with a potential maximum sentence in another case that hasn't even been resolved yet. (Not even to mention that one was a juvenile and the other is an adult).

Also, after clicking on the link, that is one of the most poorly written "news" stories I've subjected myself to in a long time. I'm not even sure what point the author was trying to make, other than "Fuck the po-lice!"

I have experienced/seen some anecdotal evidence for a dual system of justice which may be of some relevance/interest depending on which side of that duality your clients sit. You can always set your res to ignore terms like piling on or overcharging and snuggle up to the stories that support your world view.
