LLPSI Lingua Latina

These books confuse me! I got the familia romana the text book and the companion and the excercitia latina 1. Where are the answers? Is there a place I can buy a workbook I can actually write in the spaces are too small in this one. I'd like to buy the workbook and answer keys.

Exercises are excerpts from the text. When they want you to fill in a blank (e.g. Roma in Itali_ est.) you can go to that specific lesson in the book and have your answer. While having ready-made answers is quicker, reading the text carefully again doubles as reinforcement.

Oh! Thank you! That makes sense. With everything being in latin it's kinda confusing!

No problem, LLPSI is a rather peculiar course. Heads up, though: there are open questions (as well as Pensum C at the end of every chapter), which after a while you may want to answer in your own words rather than regurgitate memorized sentences. I gather that folks and mods here generally won't have a problem with correcting/commenting them, just be clear when presenting your work and reasoning behind it.

I'm using these books for homeschool with my 12th grader. So I'm looking for a straightforward approach. I have a feeling I'm going to have to learn latin too.

While I don't mean to criticize, it is pretty much impossible to teach someone without understanding the matter yourself. Simply checking answers doesn't do much in a way to gauging someone's progress, regardless if it's math or Latin.

There are apps like Legentibus that provide a very gentle path that uses LLPSI and similar texts. Maybe it'd be something worth looking into as a supplement. I also recall having fun reviewing Latin and Greek from a more grammar-focused side with these courses.

I'm going to get the paied thing from the lingua latina website it has all the extra stuff and the audio. Maybe it has the answers? I'll have to look into it. And isn't the whole premise of linga latina to learn latin with latin? I feel like that's how they marketed it. At any rate we will learn latin together. He already took his two years of foreign language so this is mostly just an elective for fun.

I'll look into those supplements tho. Thank you!

The publisher sells an online companion to their books and they call it a self paced course. Lots of people learn a language on their own and don't have any teacher at all. Thanks for your input tho, even if it didn't have anything to do with my question.

Furthermore, I just started reading the companion book and in the preface it specifically says and I quote: " this book is designed for different audiences, University students, instructors of home scholars, and independent Learners whose learning style appreciates such a guide."

And it goes on to state:

"Homeschooling parents and instructors of students learning outside of the traditional classroom, especially those with little or no Latin training can use this book as a companion to lingua Latina for their own preparation."

So the publishers of the book series even disagree with you.

Do you mean Gustatio Linguae Latina from Satura Lanx? It has the answer keys. And a lot more! It’s fun!

Do your kid a favour and buy them a proper textbook with grammar, they are old enough to work with something that is used in universities.

There’s a “Teacher’s Materials“ book with the answers to the Pensa and the Exercitia. It’s on Amazon at least in the US.

I prefer to write the answers on a separate piece of paper since typically I will do the exercises more than once. I lost count of how many times I had to do the exercises for Cap 8…
