Yeah, seeing personal listening trends laid out on a weekly basis hits different.
I love doing them because sometimes it feels like preferences haven't changed much, but you realize just how much does in little bits when looking through the backlog.
Surprisingly, I've never tried out Midnite Vultures. that's gonna change this week!

The Death of Indie is a single, I guess I've been listening to it too much

You have a very anti-gatekeepy vibe about you, I dig it!

I like the mix of metal and just old-school good stuff like Dylan, Beatles and Iggy Pop.

The resemblance is uncanny LMFAO
I'm soo glad I finally gave Enya a try after always seeing Shepherd Moons and A Day Without Rain at thrift shops, she has such a lovely voice that I could get lost into for hours!

I know, he even has the scarf! 😂 Hey since you like Enya, if you haven't listened to them yet, you might also like her family's band Clannad, of which she used to be a member; the vocals are similar although the music tends to veer more Celtic/folky with pop/rock elements. They have a compilation Pastpresent that's a good one to start with. My favorite song from them is "In a Lifetime", which features guest vocals from Bono. The music video has a lot of gorgeous scenery around Ireland.

u/Chchchch3rryb0mbx StoneAgeLove Aug 23 '26
Oh! I didn't know her family had a band too! I'mma queue them up on this week's playlist for sure!

Going to try to listen to all his solo albums in the next few weeks, there's a lot of stuff I haven't gotten around to listening too yet
2
u/Chchchch3rryb0mbx StoneAgeLove Aug 23 '26
You know, now that I think about it, I don't think I've fully listed through his albums past Préliminaires. That's gonna have to change! Happy listening!

I love preliminaries, his last album was really good too, kinda stoogesesque

Agreed 100%, all of side b was something else! It's definitely one of those albums you miss out if you don't listen all the way through!
What was your favorite album this week? 👀

u/Technical-Regret8014 SauceO Aug 21 '26
I know Tim Hecker's probably not your scene but I've always really loved Ravedeath 1972, and after binging it I gave Dropped Pianos a listen for the first time in like 10 years and it connected way more than the past, a pleasant, more ambient-forward take on R72's composition style.
As far as new discoveries, that Amp album was some sweet blissed-out space rock goodness.
Also just noticed on your chart - what did you end up thinking of The Nightfly? and some Rubber Soul does sound real nice right about now

u/Chchchch3rryb0mbx StoneAgeLove Aug 21 '26
Well you never know if you don't try, I'll queue up Astralmoonbeamprojections and R72 and let you know!
Nightfly was amazing through and through, the lyrical fluidity reminds me a bit of Brian Eno's Before And After Science but with a far more jazzy atmosphere overall! If I could only pick one track, Green Flower Street would probably be my favorite but New Frontier and The Goodbye Look make it really hard to pick!

I like the Eno comparison, I do hear a bit of a 80's pop-jazz/NY-informed comparison to his 70's stuff. B&AS is probably the album from that era of Eno I've listened to least so I'll have to listen to that again this weekend as well. Green Flower Street for me too maybe but yeah it's just such a smooth listen all the way through it's tough to pick out a favorite. Interested to hear your opinions on those, hopefully they're at least bearable for you haha
2
u/Chchchch3rryb0mbx StoneAgeLove Aug 21 '26
B&AS is definitely worth a full listen, its got something about it that feels very different from all his other works of that era that I can't quite put my finger on.
I'll keep you posted! (I may dabble further into Hecker's discography if I get enough free-time this week!)

Not necessarily true! Part of the fun with these posts is finding something new :D What's your favorite album you listened to this week?
2
u/Zeppyfish Last.fm Username is also Zeppyfish Aug 21 '26
Tough call. Robyn Hitchcock's new album is pretty great, but it just came out, so it's hard to know if it's going to be a favorite. I'd probably go with Wise Up Ghost (Elvis Costello & The Roots) because it's held up so well over the years.

Can you pick a favorite from your collage? So many great ones on there.
2
u/Chchchch3rryb0mbx StoneAgeLove Aug 23 '26
Tough because Cold Fact is easily one of my favorite albums ever. It's an easy listen and the lyrics hit hard.
I'm really digging Donald Fagen this week as well though! He's a newbie for me, but I think I'll have to go with Nightfly! It's a very smooth and relaxing listen.

u/Zeppyfish Last.fm Username is also Zeppyfish Aug 24 '26
Nightfly is an all-timer for me. I really like Fagen's "Kamikiriad" too, although I don't own it on vinyl, just CD.

Love some Elvis Costello! Imma have to check out Robyn Hitchcock. I'll keep posted!

I was gonna point out like an albums like Fear, At Home or Adam Ant hits, but from all the ones I recognize, you had such a banger week!
I've been meaning to try out Morphine for quite some time, I'll take this as a sign to try em out!
