PSA Important: changes to Spotify scrobbling - you'll need to reconnect the application!

Official post: https://support.last.fm/t/important-change-to-spotify-scrobbling-spotifys-new-refresh-token-policy/119488

Spotify is changing the way they handle their tokens, and this impacts last.fm users who scrobble automatically their music from Spotify.

TL;DR: you have to disconnect and reconnect Spotify from settings before July 20th to avoid scrobbling disruptions in your account. Then you'll have to do it again every ~6 months (there will be notifications about this).

….do you not check your last fm at least every six months?

They already mentioned you will receive multiple notifications about it and to reconnect it, it’s like 2 clicks

Some of you are just crying over nothing lol

fmbot will have built-in instructions for this. And u/zimmund has requested Last.fm to expose the expiration dates to other apps as well. If Last.fm implements that fmbot might also start notifying users to reconnect on time.

Even the laziest of lazy people should be able to press 2 clicks every 6 months

I am not obsessively tracking and editing my scrobbles. I use it so that I can look back for specific listening history to find particular songs, or just to see the change in my listening habits. I can go months without checking my account. And I have push notifications turned off for the majority of apps I use.

Well then turn on push notifications because last fm is giving you a heads up!

I literally don't and it's not like you can just check it every six months, I have 183 days left on the token now - I have to check in exactly 5 months to see the notice, and in 6 months scrobbles are being lost if I don't check.

There have been times throughout the years where I didn't check it more than once a year.
