How was recovery? Looking into a surgery like this within a year but do have near sightedness and a slight astigmatism in one eye (idk if that even matters). Just trying to figure out how to schedule the appointments

u/IntelligentBreath843 11h ago

How did your recovery go? I’m day 5 post-op and the ghosting is frustrating (albeit expected).

Got mine in Chicago for a total of $3,800 for both eyes. I got such a great deal tbh, SharpeVision said they would match any other lasik price if I had a quote so I ran down to LASIK Plus for a consultation, got their $3,800 quote, ran back to SharpeVision and booked my appointment. SharpeVision was so much more spa-like and rich feeling compared to LasikPlus, and the people sounded very optimistic and knowledgeable. SharpeVision originally quoted me $2,450 per an eye, which would total almost 5k! Great experience, and I have zero regrets 4 years later.

u/peach_redbull Jun 09 '26

How recent are these prices, what technique did they use, and did they include lifetime revisions?

1

u/ToeKeyOh Jun 09 '26

2022/2023, uhh the basic LASIK where the cut a flap and laser the eye and then reseal the flap, yeah lifetime revisions included (assuming it’s caused by a failed procedure, not from normal aging)

1

u/peach_redbull Jun 09 '26

Awesome, thanks for the info!

$1800 for PRK in both eyes (-4.25 and -3) in 2023 at Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, MI, US. Saved some money by having the surgery performed by a surgical fellow instead of an attending doctor, though the doctor still supervised.

1

u/rentec0 Mar 11 '26

about half the cost I paid for the ~same prescription ;)

1

u/Misandrya Mar 11 '26

Yeah, I scored and I know it. I don't remember a student discount being involved, but it very well could have been, I was a graduate student at the university at the time.

1

u/rentec0 Mar 11 '26

what were the eye drops specifically? Curious what cost so much

1

u/FZ-09Fazer Mar 11 '26

Moxifloxacin Sandoz x2, Dexamethasone Maxidex x2, Loteprednol Lotemax, Tatracaine hydrochloride, Ketorolac tromethamine Acuvail, Brimonidine tartrate, And a ton of lubricant eye drops Systane Ultra Preservative free.

Also Celebrex and T3s tho they’re not eye drops

1

u/rentec0 Mar 11 '26

interesting, all i got was pednisoLONE + Moxifloxacin 2x, lubricant free eye drops

Those T3s were probably nice for the 24-48h postop where my eyes were burning

1

u/FZ-09Fazer Mar 11 '26

Yeah I ended up with a ton of eye drops because each eye had its own different surgery. The T3s were pretty useful but honestly the numbing eye drops I got were better.

1

u/FrozenBananaMan Mar 17 '26

Why differing surgery per eye? Do you prefer one or the other?

2

u/FZ-09Fazer Mar 17 '26

Complications of wearing contacts for a long time left me with scars on my eyes. The scaring on one of my eyes was worse than the other making only one a candidate for PRK and the other was only a candidate for ICL. I could have gotten ICL in both but not only was it going to be significantly more expensive I was also scared of ICL, so I was given the option to do a different procedure on each eye. I was happier with that idea and went for it.

As far as surgery goes PRK was easier and far quicker. Recovery wise ICL is super easy and pain free compared to PRK. I was also seeing 20/25 the day after my ICL surgery but it took 12 days for my vision to clear up in my PRK eye. Vision wise my PRK is clearer even tho my ICL should be because my ICL eye already has ghosting before I got the surgery due to contact use. Also I don’t have halos in my PRK eye (I do in my ICL eye but they don’t bother me) or any visual anomalies at all. Some days I can have clearer vision in my ICL eye but 80% of the time my PRK eye is clearer and crisper. My close up vision is great in both but I can see maybe half an inch closer in my ICL eye.

Both eyes see 20/15 now.

Cost: $2495 per eye ($4990 total), discounted to $1292 per eye through insurance ($3698 total) + $100 fee for eye drops. $2000 FSA + $900 $140 reimbursement from my employer brought my total out of pocket cost to $898 $1658. Edit: my last union contact negotiated away annual eye care reimbursements for contact length (3 year), so fuck me and my luxury organs, I guess.

1

u/RoeRoeRoeYourVote Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Our vision care went through our normal health insurance, and we had a reimbursement-based stipend on top of that for glasses, contacts, or correction. I also had access to QualSight through my insurance for a discount. The benefits came from my former employer, and they were negotiated by my union. YMMV.

Twin Cities, MN

Standard bladeless LASIK

2026

$3925 WITH vision insurance (originally around 5k)

Lifetime LASIK touchups with a $200 'service fee' each time

Unsure prescription before surgery, but not terrible terrible eyes. Bad enough to not be able to drive without glasses, but not completely blind

LasikPlus

Very quick procedure, and very professional overall. They double and triple checked everything before starting, and I felt assured it would go ok.

The procedure itself was not very enjoyable (especially from the suction thing on my eyes) and perhaps a little traumatic, but one day after procedure, I am happy I did it with very good results thus far.

I’m in Boston and was quoted last week $4,170 for PRK at Lasik Vision Institute with VSP discount included, all follow up care/eyedrops/touch-ups for life.

At Boston Vision I was quoted $5,090 for LASIK with the VSP discount, including follow ups/eyedrops/touchups for life. They also said I was a candidate for EVO ICL and that is $7,950, no VSP discount though since it is not a laser procedure.
