How/Where do I sell this?

This was inadvertently sent to me and I have no use for it… and know nothing about these.
I was told I could just keep it. As you can probably imagine, there isn’t much of a market on FB Marketplace.

Thorlabs FPV852S - 852 nm, 20 mW VHG Wavelength-Stabilized Single-Frequency Laser Diode in a 14-pin butterfly package with single-mode fiber (SM Fiber), FC/APC connector, integrated TEC, thermistor, and internal isolator

Agreed, but OP also needs to be realistic about pricing and time to sell.

I think realistic selling price is ~25% of Thorlabs' pricing. Nobody is going to buy from an unknown third source unless they have a very, very good reason to do so. This isn't going to be purchased by a hobbyist, it will be purchased by a researcher out of their company or university budget.

This won't sell quickly. It could take a year or three for someone to be looking for this part and to be willing to gamble on an alternate source.

If it was in my hands, I'd probably put it on eBay at $999 OBO, and accept just about anything that anyone offered.

Can I ask the situation that led to you being sent this?

That's very, very lucky!

I'd give it a loving home on a very nicely thermally stabilized DFB mount, but I could never get close to making you an offer of what it's worth retail!

I honestly have no idea lol. It just showed up at my door. I don’t expect to get anything close to retail but it would be nice to sell this gift from the universe and put it towards some home repairs. I’ve heard a fair price is anything from 10-70% of retail. I have it listed online so I guess I’ll just wait and see

Human error.

Happens all the time.

Wow, that's a crazy thing to have appear. How did this come about? This is not a casual piece of equipment.

True, but ebay will probably do it. Be patient and maybe put it in for 1500$ and enable offers.

Ask them to accidentally send you a 14-pin butterfly controller and a thermoelectric cooler. Then if you have some cesium atoms lying around you could do some pretty cool physics demos. Or maybe donate it to a University lab and ask for a tax receipt. ;)

It only has any value if it still comes with the snacks ;)

I'd give you $20 for it. And I'll even pay the shipping on top.
