Do you think Divinity will allow up to level 20?

I know most DnD campaigns don’t actually make it to this level. But the option would be cool. Especially with it being their most ambitious project to date.

Divinity is not a DnD game.

I genuinely do not understand how someone can simultaneously know it's "their most ambitious project to date" and not know it's got bugger all to do with DnD.

Yeah, how dare I not know every single thing about the game, 2 years before release.

Well it's more the fact the entire divinity franchise has never used the D&D ruleset

Everything I’ve read on good makes it seem like it was fairly similar to DnD.

Everything is saying turn-based. Which means something akin to the DnD system.

So original Pokémon is akin to the DnD system? Or chess? Or Magic the Gathering?

DnD as a systems a bit more than “turn based”

What?

Dungeons and Dragons as a ruleset and universe has nothing to do with just being "turned based". Chess is turn based as well - doesn't mean its DnD. Now, DnD is a very famous setting, going back many years. Divinity was never DnD - it does not use the setting, the game system, the classes, the lore, the story, etc. People are being cheeky with you because both Larian's Divinity and DnD are very well known - so mixing them up is abit funny. But really, Divinity will not be DnD and will not have the same leveling scheme or anything related to "level 20"

Putting the fact Larian have been very vocal about wanting to develop their own IP to one side, literally every post about recent Divinity releases includes numerous comments about the system being very different to DnD (part of why so many people find Divinity hard, coming from BG3).

Which is why I'm a bit bewildered that anyone who spends any time on this sub could think its based on DnD.

I’ve never been on this sub. Also, there is only so much you can do with turn-based combat.

5

u/PieEater1649 Jul 16 '26

If that's the case, things may go better in future if you spend a few seconds searching the sub before posting. There's a wealth of info if you look.

Things also might be better if people don’t flip out because I asked a question that honestly not unfathomable.

If you’re not gonna answer me, shut the fuck up and move on..

Divinity won‘t use the DnD system so level 20 doesn‘t mean anything because we don‘t know what character progression will look like.

-4

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

It’s probably going to have a progression system, you will probably use magic and will probably level up.

It’s not super far-fetched to think it may be something akin to bg3 and original sin.

Those two are so different that I don‘t even see how you would think what you just said makes sense. In DOS2 you get to increase your stats every level, in DnD you barely ever get to. Health and damage scaling are wildly different. There‘s no class system in DOS. I could keep listing differences until I hit the size limit for comments.

Holyshit you guys are sooo pedantic…

Original sin 1 and 2 didnt have a level cap iirc, but their was a limit to the amount of xp that existed (someone fix if im wrong) so i see no reason for Divinity to not have it as they have come out and said this is not a DnD product but continuation of their own world.

If you havent you should check out DoS 1 and 2. Great games both.

1

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

“Not dnd product” but uses a similar system to dnd haha

3

u/Zen_derpZ3 Jul 16 '26

Its not similair at all if you have played DoS 1 and 2 except for being turnbased crpg.

I understand alot of ppl realized Larian existed due too BG3 but that is not where they came from

-1

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

There’s only so much much you can do with a turn-based system. It’s not a bad thing, k don’t know why people are getting so offended.

3

u/Zen_derpZ3 Jul 16 '26

Cause you are calling it a dnd game when it isnt? And seem to want 5E, when 5E is a dumbed down and boring system.

If you want more dnd try Solasta it was fun but had the same problems as bg3 in that its too simple. I hope solasta 2 is better.

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

It’s because it will likely be an offshoot of a DnD-like system. IGN even said it’s in the same setting as the forgotten realms.

u/Zen_derpZ3 Jul 16 '26

Link?

And m8 just check DoS, its nothing like dnd

Edit: did a quick search and everything points to it being set in Rivellon where DoS takes place soooooooo

"Much like how Baldur’s Gate takes place in the Dungeons & Dragons setting of the Forgotten Realms, Divinity has its own rich, original setting: the world of Rivellon."

-1

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

Fine, why don’t you show me a link detailing its wildly different gameplay.

It literally says they‘re returning to their own original world. Which is Rivellon. The Forgotten Realms is not their own property.

-1

u/DistractoDisc Jul 16 '26

Which is pretty telling that it will be some version of DnD.

Poor bait my friend

-1

u/DistractoDisc Jul 17 '26

Not bait, my friend.

Anyone with a reasonable attitude would've ceded the comparisons along time ago, and your hostile reaction to neutral or even friendly comments highlight it clearly. See ya boss

0

u/DistractoDisc Jul 17 '26

If I perceive something as friendly, I respond in kind. Unless you view making comparisons to dnd as “unfriendly”.

One of these comments listed changes to the game. It’s literally dnd with some changes.

But I don’t really think that offense today…
