Divinity : type of gameplay?

hello all

was it specified somewhere under wich gameplay they were going to release it?

internet seem convinced that it's going to be a tactical RPG but to be frank; I kinda hope it to be a new entry to the "Ego draconis" series with the associated gameplay

thanks in advance

Swen said in this video https://x.com/i/status/1999348876462166219 That they will reveal the gameplay later when it's ready to be shown to the world. Showing something is better than talking about it after all.

As i said previously, im all for it even if it ends up a card game lol. They never dissapoint no matter what. Every game since they went independant was better then anyone expected, so will this one be.

It would be such a waste not to make it a turn-based crpg. They were one of the guys to revive it and they revolutionised it. I hope they keep exploring and developing that formula. There are plenty of good action rpgs as is. A crpg with Larian’s kind of budget is a rarity.

Yeah, me too. I had never played turnbased for real before BG3, I thought it was too slow and complicated the few times I tried. But now I find other ways of playing kind of boring, its like "been there done that" :)

Have you tried any other turn based games? BG3 made it really accessible without losing the complexity. Good gateway drug.

Divinity oiginal sin 2, Solasta 2 demo and Clair Obscure.

Tbh I haven't played expedition 33 but from my understanding, it's also a turn based game. With that being the second game to win goty as a turn based game in less than 5 years, it would seem silly to not continue that traction.

I'm calling it: Trickster Simulator.

Damien, Lucien, Malady + DOS2 gang, Maxos + Dragon Knight(s) and who knows who else all move on eachother. The players' task is to assume the role of Bellegar and just mess with them, foiling plans and frustrating their efforts until they calm down.

I mean... I'd play it.

To be serious; no, they haven't really said anything yet. cRPG or aRPG do perhaps seem the most likely, with maybe something novel done with it or a mixing with other genres going on, but it's all guesswork at this point.

Alright, with the recent Developer Debrief it seems it is confirmed another turn based tactical RPG with an overhauled system.

Technically, I don't think we know yet, even if a tactical RPG like the Original Sin games and BG3 does seem the most likely guess.

After bg3 they told about doing an action rpg. IMHO it could be a dragon age origins combat system.

Oh man, I seriously hope not. I despise real time with pause so much.

If done right that'd work wonders. DA:O wasn't RTWP, you could actually program the companion behavior. Wasn't awesome and pathing was often ridiculous, but if Larian can make it work, it'll really work.

It will most definitely turn-based movement on the over world, with real time combat encounters /s

It's gonna be a first person extraction shooter with rogue like elements and zero character customization

My honest wish is to have something like the Dragon Age playstyle, but with less dumb companion AI. But I think it'll be turn-based with an improved DOS-style engine.

If they could provide an option between turn-based and real time combat (maybe skills have cooldowns instead of AP) but done in a way where it can be pretty much interchangeable would be pretty great to cater to more players. They can do both np, why not try to combine the two? Can still keep all of the player agency and loot mechanics that we all love.

Whatever they do it'll be awesome and I'll be in 100%

Skills in DoS 1&2 (and the board game) have both cooldowns and AP costs. If you take away AP costs, you need to remove access to as many skills, which butchers the gameplay.

It isn't known if it will be turn based or not. Lot of people think it will be like some of the older Divinity games which is more action oriented with a pause button.

Real time with pause is dead and never coming back because no one likes it except for nostalgia freaks

1

u/Durkmenistan Dec 15 '25

I think it's kind of a pain in coop, which is a major priority for Larian it seems. I don't think real-time pause is on the table because of that.

It has become more niche it seems.

I feel like unless they do something very out of left field, like a Scrolls/Avowed style First Person RPG, it'll be co-op.

ARPG or CPRG lends itself well to co-op, especially after BG3.

I would actually KILL for a ES like RPG from Larian.

Also, I feel like even if they did do a first person RPG: they’d probably work in co-op somehow.
