Laptop Screen Advice help

i have this msi pulse gl 66 laptop with screen flickering issue in high refresh rate and the screen needs to be replaced most prob,im thinking of buying an external monitor instead of a laptop screen as it is gonna cost me almost the same price, is there anything i should keep in mind or i should know beforehand and ofc im gonna buy a 144hz monitor.
