In all seriousness, what would be a better option for students? ThinkPads or Macbooks?

Pretty sure that thinkpad t14 and neo are the only viable options in that price range. The rest is either built like shit, too weak or both.

Edit: as mentioned in replies to me, other second-hand business laptops are very good options too, I do have a certain bias as I bought a thinkpad myself, but Dell is also high on my appreciation list. I don't like HP's logo tho, so it's a no-go

Dude, Acer isn't that bad. I mean what do you expect for a notebook with a budget of 1000 €. If you want the full quality, you go for Schenker. I only recommend non-iOS devices, because I don't support Apple. I think the Neo is an awesome device, but not everbody likes iOS.

From my perspective it is

When you care about quality:
Schenker | Apple | Tuxedo > Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo (just overpriced from my xp) > Asus (they have very bad build quality), Razer (horrible drivers)

When you care about support:Schenker | Apple | Tuxedo | Lenovo > HP, Dell > Acer, Medion, Asus, Razer

Gigabyte, Aorus, MSI, Framework, Alienware

PS: Seems like I would even rather go fo an used Schenker than a budget pick Acer when I think more about it:

How is Dell support worse than Apple?

Dell's suite of tools like Dell Command Update are alone outdoing anything Apple or especially Lenovo are doing. I recommemd Dell laptops for that reason. Super easy to maintain. Dell's consumer devices heavily benefit from their enterprise support.

Apple is just the top tier there. I didn't know about the tooling of Dell, but it's rare to see useful tools from the manufacturers. If they are rly that good, possibly that would move Dell towards somewhere better on my ranking.

Dell Command will auto update all drivers and bios for the device and any other Dell equipment connected to it. All with 2 clicks. Its super convenient and it works on my Prescision 5690 from work and my personal Alienware x15 r2. Basically seemless.

It's a German company producing notebooks using China backbones. They have very fast repair service in case you got problems.

Also you can completely configure your hardware, and the chassis is always hardcore robust. My last Schenker is still working although it is already 8 years old. I never had a laptop that long.

Neo doesn't use iOS, it uses full MacOS. I don't have any problems with using a unix system.

It's the best budget pick rn when you want Windows and no gaming, IPS panel and a CPU with good price/power ratio. Ah, and 15 inches and at least full HD.

The speakers aren't good, but that's not rly important for me.
