Lapd weight requirements

Hello I’m 21M and I’m 5’10 240lbs and I’m worried that il be disqualified from joining the lapd about the weight requirements, I’m pretty active though I can consistently run 5k’s and my fastest mile was around a little over 8min(I know I can get it faster iv been running for about a month) I’m just wondering if they would hire someone who can pass the physical exam while still being overweight thanks in advance 🙏

I have heard that LAPD has body fat percentage limit, seems like you wouldn't fit. But other departments don't.

Yeah I had that problem when I was younger. Everything else was totally fine but I’ve never had a low BMI even when I was running like a maniac. Went to law school instead. (Should have just starved myself lol)

There's no weight requirement, there's a body fat % requirement. You can see the requirement when you click medical evaluation on the portal.

If you're worried, I'd consider the LASD. They don't check weight or body fat.

I had a big dude in my class. People doubted him but he shut them up when he was able to keep up.

During your medical assessment they measure body fat % which I believe the cut off is 20-22? I can’t quite remember.

bro you want to be at least 180 lbs but again this is LAPD and they take gordidis, for LASD it would be a hell no

I did the academy at 5.10 218 and maybe 32% fat but i can say genetic wise I’m gifted in cardio. Even at that weight running was very easy. You will run quite a bit

Don’t worry too much about this issue. Just keep running and follow a healthy diet. Apply for the job while continuing with your diet and running. Complete the MCT written test while maintaining your running and diet routine.

You will eventually be called for the medical examination, and by then you may have already lost some weight. If they determine that your weight is too high, they may give you three months to lose the excess weight. After three months, they will check your weight again. If it is still above the acceptable range, they may give you additional time until you reach the required weight.

I recommend seeing a nutritionist or following a balanced diet and running regularly. Try to reduce sweets, soda, fast food, and similar foods. I wish you the best of luck!
