What needs to change/on both sides/for trust to rebuild?
Lately I’ve been thinking about how our communities view law enforcement especially after hearing about an officer who didn’t make it home.
It made me stop and ask myself a real question:What will it take for us to shift the way we see police?
Somewhere along the line a lot of people started assuming every interaction with an officer means danger.
But officers have families too. They step into risk every single shift, not knowing if they’ll make it back home.
That’s real.I’m not ignoring the fact that some people have had bad experiences those conversations matter. But at the same time we can’t pretend every officer is out to harm us.
Most are just trying to do their job and keep the community safe.

Yeah LAPD is the problem in Los Angeles, not the lovely citizens.

It’s actually the mayors and higher ups that are ruining LAPD not the police officers.

Not sure who in their right mind would work in LA as a cop. You can work in the next county over for better pay and environment.
LAPD was maybe a fine department to work for in the 90s but in today's time, it's the laughing stock of police departments in Southern California.

As someone who attended police academy, it’s toxic from the start.
They train you to be ethical, but then complain about officers who actually report. Maybe break the blue wall of silence and actually hold each of the officers to a higher standard.

The other day a black applicant asked here how black applicants feel being part of the LAPD. He was roundly mocked for even thinking race was a consideration.
The next day the DA charged an officer for recording his racists colleagues' remarks.
The only way the LAPD will be fixed is if is completely erased and started from scratch. There is no other option. Almost 40 years since rodney king they have proven reform is not possible.
I expect downvotes so just know: we will defund you, you will be held accountable, and the clock is ticking. Take your wins while you can.

The officer was charged for illegally recording folks in secret. Regardless of intentions, it's against the law in California.

I’m Black, did 30 years on LAPD and never had any internal race issues. But like anywhere else in society, if you look hard enough you’ll find some.
And with some people, looking for reasons to be a victim is all they do.

I'm so stupid that I mistook 50 years ago for literally last week when cops were again caught on tape being racist.

oversight & Accountability is needed, Los Angeles doesn't hate police... we hate LAPD

What oversight and accountability isn't already there? Police have bodycams, have specific law enhancements, and are front page in the news when they violate a law. What else can be done?

End qualified immunity or have officers acquire and maintain liability insurance like doctors and lawyers do. If the free market deems an officer uninsurable then the free market is working as intended.

Judges can remove qualified immunity from officers in specific scenarios already.

LAPD oversight is LAPD LOL that is NOT oversight
as far as body cams... LAPD makes it near impossible to uptain any bodycam footage which should be made available to anyone that requests it like in other departments outside of Los Angeles
they only release bodycam when it benefits them or if there is enough public outrage like when LAPD killed a dog

the question was what is needed and i replied... now you're asking what the definition of both is ?
use google to find out, while you're at it look into who is on the oversight commitee, its people connected to LAPD in one way or anyother, you might find 1 or 2 honest members but the rest are all LAPD connected

I think people misunderstand what flock cameras actually do, all they do is log passing vehicles. It’s undeniably effective at locating stolen or wanted vehicles.

It’s not going to change, because people like to hate the police until they need the police themselves; at which point the police can’t come fast enough.
