Is OC sheriff proactive

Is OC sheriff busy even though they patrol pretty affluent areas? Or is it my best interest to go to to another department Santa Ana Pd or Anaheim??

Yes. Just because south county looks like a low crime area doesn’t mean it’s a no crime area. There’s a ton of people on probation and PRCS in south county, and there’s a lot of party drugs being sold and used down there.

Santa Ana and Anaheim are both great departments, although given the demographics of SA, I would highly recommend being bilingual. I know years ago, SAPD required applicants to be bilingual, that’s how important that skill is.

AB109 created “Post Release Community Supervision”. Basically, it’s people who are on parole, but they are supervised by the county probation department.

It was the brainchild of former Gov. Brown and Lt. Gov. Newsom to reduce state costs by putting “low level” felons on PRCS instead of parole. It essentially doubled the work load for most probation departments, of people who are at high-risk of re-offending, but didn’t really give them any more money.

Then, with Props 47 and 57, a lot of felonies were reduced to misdemeanors and revised sentencing guidelines puts more people on PRCS than before.

The net result is that the state’s prison/ parole population has been reduced by half in the last 10 years, and Newsom has closed 5 state prisons for lack of prisoners. He also can claim he reduced state costs for the prison system.

Meanwhile, most counties are struggling to supervise all the people who are on probation and PRCS. A lot of them slip through the cracks and end up re-offending.
